One of the most funny stories of the Falkland/Malvinas War is operation Algeciras. To be brief, Argentina sent to Spain a couple of combat scuba diversa who had been montoneros. They am with some explosives. Their idea was to attack with those combat divers, who would swim from Andalusia to Gibraltar and try to blow up an English Warship (like the Italian combat divers from Décima Más in WW2). Those were hard times in Spain. ETA was striking, and the Argentines were arrested because the Police thought they were Basque separatists. One of the policemen said that, had he known their true mission (sinking British ships) he would have looked the other way around and let them do their job.... 😉

Love the content - but the delivery was a bit painful to listen to [I'm sure I'd be terrible speaking in Spanish]. What's the reference to the material about special forces in Syria expressing disquiet about the factions the CIA was supporting?

One more detail about the Che angle. Apparently Klaus Barbie was involved in his capture. One of the real crazy stories. Barbie started out as an SS man in occupied France and became known as "The Butcher of Lyon". After the war he worked for the CIA and German BND. He is supposed to have been involved in the Bolivian coup. A real piece of work.

Good one. I have a friend from Argentina who told me that after the Malvinas War it wasn't a good idea to give one's children foreign names. His father is German but basically lived in Argentina all his live. That's why he wanted to give him a German name - at the time not a good idea. At least, that's what he told me.

When Argentinian intelligence had to make up a story about a conspiracy involving Jewish businessmen they choose to have them meeting in Prague. No points for creativity here.

Vis a vis your discussion concerning Trump, Comey, and Russia, this is a cogent article that you may find interesting concerning yesterday's report that Trump apparently disclosed highly-classified information to Kislyak when they met in the Oval Office, information through which Russia could deduce source and means. You may find it interesting. https://www.lawfareblog.com/bombshell-initial-thoughts-washington-posts-game-changing-story

Gabriel selling himself far too short at the start, very good and informative discussion!

Thank you very much! An intricate subject, so hearing myself doing "uh uh uh" and going off on tangents even more painful than it'd have been if I was talking about some neutral war nerd subject like why our artillery and air force actually did well in the Falklands. Extremely relieved that people seemed to have got something out of it nonetheless.

When did the Argentine communists break with Moscow ? Most communist parties where under their sway until they either broke off and became independent or switched to Maoism. I mean supporting the 1976 coup sounds like Stalin urging the communists to cooperate and trust Chang Kai Check !
