You guys should/could also check out some episodes of Stories by Rabindranath Tagore. These are the most popular stories of Tagore written mostly with female centric characters and the direction is slow paced and laid back but then again, Kolkata in the 1920s-1940s... It has to be like that.

ACHARA!! I forgot to mention this: please react to ROMANCHAM, one of the biggest Malayalam hits of 2023. Horror comedy about guys messing around with a ouija board. It's based on the director's real life experience. I'm not sure but I was told it's his first movie and his 2nd one is the recent success Aavesham with Fahadh Faasil. Because of your knowledge about spirits, things not to do etc I think it's a movie for you 😁

I heard mixed reviews too, mostly that it looks pretty but is boring, so I haven't watched it yet and I think there are other shows to consider first. You guys have really liked everything you have seen so far from director Imtiaz Ali so I would recommend to you the Netflix show SHE that he created. A 3rd season is in the making. It's about a young female cop put on a dangerous mission where she has to get close to an elusive drug dealer, to do so she has to impersonate a prostitute. While the mission is happening she has to deal with a divorce and the fact she feels ill at ease with her sexuality. Vijay Varma has a big role in the show. I discovered it recently so haven't watched season 2 yet but season 1 blew me away, Imtiaz Ali is a genius, I cannot believe a man came up with this story which is so deep and nuanced about a woman struggling with self image and sexuality. So please consider checking it out 🙏😊 Also, Panchayat season 3 releases at the end of the month. Achara saw season 1 and 2 with Syntell. One of the best Indian shows for sure. Apart from that, I know it wasn't rhe question lol but kudos to you guys for having built a really cool and fairly varied collection of watchalongs on the channel 👏👏👏 The only thing missing is older classics and I hope you check them out soon. I think there might be the belief that older movies are not so good but as a westerner myself who saw many recently I assure you that is not true. I was actually in the process of compiling a list of recommendations for you 😁 but you are probably aware that SHOLAY (1975, curry western/masala) is a good one to start with because of how iconic it is. Big B and his wife are in it (she is one of the best actresses of the 70s IMO) as well as the other real life couple Dharmendra and Hema Malini, both hugely popular back then (still now). Dharmendra is Sunny and Bobby Deol's dad. Another renowned actor in it is Sanjeev Kumar (my personal fav classic actor). MAYABAZAR (1957, Telugu) would be my next suggestion. It's the adaptation of a folktale and it's the most famous mythological movie which was a highly popular genre of the Telugu industry. It's still one of the highest rated Telugu movies online. The story is mostly a romance & comedy, with fantasy involved. Savitri is the lead actress. Achara and Jaby have seen and liked her biopic Mahanati. They had recreated an iconic scene of MayaBazar in it. Jr NTR's grandfather plays Krishna in MayaBazar and was so popular he played the god again in many other movies. The plot of MayaBazar might seem confusing at the start because they are many characters but it quickly becomes easy to follow. Seeing how creative they got to make the vfx they needed in 1957 is super fun to watch. You should watch the *colorized* version. Among the ones to watch in priority I would also say you have to watch something of Raj Kapoor (Rishi's dad, Ranbir & Kareena's grandfather). He's becoming one of my fav directors. I'd recommend AWAARA from early in his career (1951), his dad the Kapoor patriarch Prithviraj (who left Punjab to try his luck in movies) is in it too as well as Nargis, one of the top actresses of the time and also Sanjay Dutt's mom. Raj Kapoor directed Awaara and is the main lead in it. It's a social drama. Another impressive one of his is MERA NAAM JOKER (1970) a 4 hour long behemoth about an aging clown (played by him) who narrates his 3 failed love stories. Supposedly the movie is part autobiographical. In the first story, Rishi plays the character as a teenager, it was his very first role. Kapoor was way ahead of his time and it's obvious here. Other top classics are: - The magnus opus MOTHER INDIA (1957, nominated for an Oscar) with Nargis and Sunil Dutt, Sanjay's parents. He saved her life during shooting when there was a fire, he got hurt, she srayed to his side in the hospital and they fell in love. Farah Khan referenced that event in Om Shanti Om when SRK saves Deepika for the on set fire. Funnily Sunil plays her son in the later portion of the movie. It's a really well made drama. - The drama PYAASA (1957), written & directed by the renowned Guru Dutt and with him in the main role. It's about a struggling poet who tried selling his work, it's a reflection on art vs the pursuit of money, the story is still so relevant these days. The movie is often included in western books about the best movies of all time. - The drama Anand (1971) about a man who has cancer and only weeks left, and tries to bring happiness around him during his remaining time. Main role played by Rajesh Khanna the superstar of the late 60s/early 70s (fun fact: he used to be married to Dimple Kapadia and their daughter Twinkle is married to Akshay Kumar). The story is narrated by his doctor/friend, one of the early roles of Big B and the one that made him popular (soon after Big B replaced Khanna as the biggest Hindi star). A movie also often mentioned in western publications. - the evergreen comedy GOL MAAL (1979) about a modern young man pretending to be very conservative in order to get a job under a very conservative boss, but then get caught in a web of lies. One of my personal favs. Jaby has seen the main actor recently in Farzi where he played Shahid's grandfather (I think?). Dina Pathak, renowned actress of the time, has a very fun role in it. She is the mother of actresses Supriya Pathak (the mom in Ram Leela...), and Ratna Pathak Shah (the mom in Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na...) who is married to Naseeruddin Shah. Also, I have to mention my personal fav classics, actually one of my all time favs: SEETA AUR GEETA (1972) where Hema Malini plays the double role of twins separated at birth. One is abused by her mean (but also hilarious) aunt the other got adopted and is very street smart and she kicks ass. The movies is mostly a comedy. The 2 male leads are Dharmendra and Sanjeev Kumar (in real life Hema dated Sanjeev and later married Dharmendra lol). The movie was written by Salim-Javed (respectively Salman's dad and Zoya & Farhan Akhtar's dad) who also wrote Sholay. Same director too. It's actually a female led remake of a previous movie with Dilip Kumar but this version is so much better. Lots of fun, has aged really well. I also love how they had this ressourceful female character who can kick ass back in the early 70s. That being said I have to say that it was remade again as ChaalBaaz in 1989 with Sridevi, Rajnikanth and Sunny Deol and this more recent version is now more famous it seems. Anupam Kher plays the villainous uncle. It's also a super fun movie but more on the masala side (with some really dark moments) whereas the 1972 one is lighter. As for 90s movies, you have just watched Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar because Aamir mentioned it to you but my fav 90s Aamir movie (actually one of my all time fav Hindi movies) is RANGEELA (1995) directed by Ram Gopal Varma. It's a love triangle. Jackie Shroff plays the 2nd male lead. The main actress Urmila Matondkar became a sex symbol after this movie. It's IMO an evergreen, fun romcom that still feels fresh today. The songs by ARR are absolute bangers. So I'd recommend this one 😊 Another 90s must watch is DIL SE (one of my all time fav movies) with SRK, directed by Mani Ratnam. It's the 3rd movie in his terrorism trilogy but the movies are only connected through their theme. The first 2 are Roja and Bombay (Tamil movies), they are good but I would argue Dil Se is a masterpiece. It's also probably more... artsy, less mainstream and more hard hitting which is its strength IMO. One of the best soundtracks by ARR. Incredible the stuff. Farah Khan did the choreographies. Hopefully you'll consider adding them to your watchlist. I feel like Jaby should be involved in seeing the classics since apart from being good movies they also give more knowledge about Indian cinema in the previous decades, but any reaction but any reactor would be appreciated 😁 (Yes that was a long reply 🤣)

First, MIRZAPUR SEASON 3 will be out anytime now. Some online "news" portals say April 2024 but I havent seen the official trailer yet from Prime. Heeramandi can be watched for being unique. It's not so bad. Had quite a few touching moments. If I had to suggest something though, I'd say Rocket Boys Season 2 and starting next month, Panchayat Season 3. Not sure who else apart from Syntell has even seen seasons 1 and 2 of Panchayat.
