Also also also, lmao. There is a follow up One-Shot Manga. It's bassically one big chapter with a solid ending. I wish they would adapt it into anime and I would say make it a series, but, well, when you see the ending... Anyway it was a more modern time, more accurately several years ago during Trumps first term*, and yes Trump shows up in the Manga. The entire world knows of the Death Note and the world bassically reversed as we saw it toward the end of the anime. The world is condemning Kira on mass. And ofcourse all the super powers in the world would kill for that kind of power. Let's just say Ryuk gets bored again and drops his notebook for another high-school kid. But this kid isn't gonna follow in the footsteps of Kira who Ultimately failed and decides to use the notebook completely different from Light putting the world in an uproar so much so the Shinigami King takes notice....
Also also. There is a two part ANIME movie where I believe it's Ryuk re-telling the events of the anime.
Well technically there's a 3rd live adaptation that is actually an episodic, not a movie. But the plot seemed botched immediately and I couldn't watch it. There is also a novel that takes place before the main events of Death Note. The events of that book are mentioned in the Anime when L says he recognized the name of Naomi saying she worked under him back in the U.S. (Light and Naomi interaction in the Japanese Live action is totally different too.)
Hey Verticile. Great reaction to my favorite anime. I appreciate it. PSA: Death Note has TWO live action adaptation. The modern Netflix version which is just awful. And an older one made in Japan but they dub it with the English VAs from the anime. It's good. It's a 3 part film with a totally different ending for L and Light.
The original live action films of Death Note that AREN'T the Netflix one are really good
Soo just a couple things too wrap up… L I feel stating he wouldn’t know how to deal with someone like himself… (I am that monster quote, he is at a disadvantage because most of his prior experience and cases were more based on normal human mentality) Light damned ray penbur to purgatory (or to become a shinigami) and possibly his father (idk if his father wrote a name in the book, or if the eye deal ties that rule to him). Light also killed ray penburs unborn son… Mellow knew he was probably going to die, hence his statement to his friend involved in the capture of Kira’s news reporter (that threw a smoke grenade) “I’m sorry _____, I didn’t think you’d have to die too” and I think that the opinion of season 1 being better then season 2 is only because some of season 2s reasoning was more based on leap of faiths and loose assumptions on Ns part. I think Ls felt more believable because he checked and backed his things up with proof showing how he came to conclusions… vs N was more how did he figure this out? With no solid or evidence based reply. L also created more interesting pitfalls, feeling like more of a cat and mouse game, near only felt like that at the last episode… atleast in my opinion
Are you a bad person if you want misa miss the mass murder to get a good ending ?
Bro, please watch Re: zero after Attack on titan, Jujutsu Kaisen and Death note. And please when you start watching episode 11 or 12. Finish the video by watching episode 15.
There’s ( The a-Kira Story) is a 2020 one-shot manga chapter the story is within the Death Note universe set several years after Light Yagami's death and the world after him it’s short story but really interesting one and good start to managa readers
Death note will probably always be my favorite anime. And im really glad you liked it. I actually jusg rewatched the entire anime with you in just one day. :) also my first anime too.
This was also my first anime and this has been an amazing experience, I never thought anime would go into the top 5 best shows I’ve ever watched. It wasn’t the perfect ending, but I don’t know of a show that has one. I’m excited to continue my anime journey and hope that any come close to this!

perfect ending, fight me
I get emotional every time it ends, and I don’t even fw Light. I think it was such a nice way to end his journey as it connects to what Ryuk said about people who use the death note having nothing but misfortune. Light finally realized what that meant in final moments. Also, don’t watch that bs Netflix movie. What you need to watch is the Live Action Japanese 2006 movies. They are dubbed by the same voice actors in the anime! Really nice watch! I love your reaction to the series and I’m sad to see it end. I’m also glad you enjoyed the second half. I used to think it wasn’t as good when I was young, but rewatching it when I got older was an amazing experience. Near gave L’s personality and Mello was more Light minded. It was great watching this 💕
Did anyone tell him to watch the 2006 live action movies? They had a different ending but are the best live action movies ever.
L did found that light was kira, he just didn't want it to be that way. He didn't want to loose his friend; when we see L's end it's obvious that he knew.
The monster speech is him talking about liars the fact that people will do all these things that he mentioned while never actually wanting or needing to do them they just do it to fit in. that fits into L because L is selfishly solving cases for his own amusement and enjoyment and he doesnt really care about "justice" but he will pretend that he cares about justice because its normal to do so and sometimes for other reasons (making light rage bait)
The only anime that kind of is similar to death note in tone is Death Parade but its not a detective story
light shouldve won, he was making the world a better place.
first time on patreon, kinda nervous thanks for making this ep free GOAT
The show was amazing the whole way through. I do not get why people don’t like it near the end
15:34 I took L's speech to be full of examples. The majority of it boiled down (in my perception as an autistic woman) to the lying monsters behave the way they perceive and expect other humans to behave. They do what other humans do. They use mimicry to fit in because they have no concept of sameness. The lying monsters are the most difficult to catch because they emulate humans out of necessity, they become indistinguishable, even to those looking for the difference. Until it is too late. Until that lying monster has gotten its wish. To eat who or whatever stood in its way or discovered its true nature. L is one of those lying monsters in his mind because of his autism. We both feel very different and alien to normal humans, or rather: to what we perceive to be normal humans. We lie to seem similar. We don't understand other people and don't seek friendship because we desire it but because we see that other humans do so, thus we feel obligated to make the attempt in order to fit in. And L believes that if he were to meet another of these lying monsters, that he would surely be eaten by it, because his cold, deductive brain has no reference for that same falseness. In this case like does not recognize like. L feels he will be eaten because he lacks the empathy and understanding of humans to sense out such a liar as he himself must be in order to fit in.
I'm late to this one but in case no one else has mentioned, the reason Near did that funny smile after he removed his mask is because that's the moment he saw Ryuk, confirming all his suspicions (to himself, at least)!
So lights book was sidohs book that ryuk stole from. That was the original one that light used. Sidoh grabbed it back making there only be 2 notebooks left in the human world. The other 2 notebooks are Rems, and Misa (when Jelus died).
I just joined! I'd recommend 'Monster' anime. It's serious and the only other anime other than death note that I enjoy.
u should watch the moment they caught light in Japanese as well. The Japanese voice actor is insane imo he gives Light an entirely different feeling. Although the dub is pretty good as well.
just subbed for this vid 👏🏾

your opinion on the show after L died is such a breath of fresh air. i always thought the second part was just as good as the first but a lot of people say otherwise. death note was also my first anime and got me into more. such a perfect first anime. i even managed to get my dad into anime because of this show lol. love your reactions!
https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZP8sUquDr/
Unfortunately, it's an EXTREMELY common opinion that the second arc goes downhill. Personally, I really enjoy both, for different reasons. And as for Light's death... I like both versions, but I think I like the manga version just a tiiiinnnyyy bit better. I feel like it shows that underneath everything, Light isn't the cool mastermind/god he's played at for 7 years, he's just like any other dumb human terrified of their own death and pathetic when faced with it. (As for the live action version, assuming you're talking about the Netflix movie, I've never watched it because it got pretty much universally bad reviews. But from what I remember of them from back in the day, I can highly recommend both the manga and the Los Angeles BB Murder Cases novel if you want more Death Note. The book is a prequel, though, so no Light. Also, if you do read it, don't try to make sense of any kind of timeline in comparison to the anime/manga. It does not make sense in any way, and you will only needlessly hurt your brain trying to do that.)
we love the 420 discussion
Imagine subscribing just to get the finale, only for this man to reveal he's been keeping insanely detailed notes hidden away from the youtube audience the entire time. What a beast. Wish you'd included snippets of that in the yt uploads, but I get why you wouldn't, for retention's sake.
If you liked Death Note I think you would enjoy watching 'La Casa di Carta' too. They're similar with the police vs the resistence, and there are battles of IQ and strategies alike which makes it really fun to watch.
IMO when people say that show has got worse after L is because when N appeared it became harder to follow what's up is going on. When Light was against L all cause and effects were adding up and their moves were really smooth. But with N you never knew what's going to happen, so it felt like all their mind moves were made up in a fly to match the script/rushed/underexplained (you reffered to such it as "N is too smart"). in that sense the show has gone down a hill a bit. Still enjoyed it though, the end of Light was gracefull

Do not watch the live action actually watch it I just wanna see you clown it😂
Something I haven’t seen people mention is that there actually is a chapter flashing forward 1 year post Lights death that covers the state of the world and where everyone involved ended up. Might be worth checking out. There are also 2 cannon one shots post Light. Final thing, people mentioned the movies and TV show, but a lesser known adaptation is the musical. It’s kind of difficult to find (or it least it used to be when I was initially looking for it) but it’s really interesting because the story is actually a bit different. Cheers!
ohhh hell yeah, its so rare to see people talking about the musical (cause of how hard it is to find, searching "death note slime tutorial" on youtube usually does the trick tho), its still on my watch later list, but from the musics i've already heard, the songs and characterization are so fire
I don’t know if you watched them after making the video, but you actually haven’t seen all the deleted/additional scenes. There are two more from the two movies released after the anime: Relight 1 and Relight 2. At the beginning of Relight 1 (the first 3 minutes) and at the very end of Relight 2, there are two really important scenes where we see a conversation between Ryuk and another Shinigami. The second one especially has fueled a lot of theories about Light Yagami’s fate. I really think you should watch them. Also, I really enjoy your reactions, and I don’t regret subscribing(420!!).
Brother, I'm gonna need you to watch and react to the Best psychological anime ever. MONSTER. This will be the same tone as Death Note and a great watch - also interested to see where our villain in Monster lies on the evil ranking for you.
and now to finish this series. Great react vids!
The live action death note is insanely bad. You should definitely react to it lol
420, my bro Im trying to keep up to your theoris while ur trying to understand xD
Near had information that L didn’t have he is NOT smarter than L. He had all of L’s investigation to build off of L narrowed heart attack deaths down to a teenager with a notebook that kills people and is owned by invisible death gods
i find it fucking hilarious that as soon as that poignant end credits ended it just recommends a picture of peter griffin as a pirate
Do not watch the live action you’ll be massively dissapointed 😭
Light had Ryuks, Misa had Rems, light switched for interrogation so the book would end up back to him, he gave Rem Misas book and Rem gave it to Ryuk, Light then gave Ryuk his book, and Ryuk gave it to Rem. Rem gave Lights book to Higochi with fake rules that he had Ryuk write down. When the notebook was returned, it was still his, but when rem died, it became Ryuks because Ryuk gave it to Rem. Now Ryuk is the ruler of BOTH, then Rems death gives one to Light, so the one in custody is ruled by Ryuk while Misa has her own. Then the other Shinigami takes the one in custody back. However, they do switch Misas and Lights so Light doesn't have possession, but still has Memory, he keeps Misas on him and Misa gives Lights to Mikami. The same one he stole from Rem. During which time, he gives it to Ryuk, making Ryuk the ruler of BOTH notebooks again. So Ryuk has rule over Mikamis Book now, Light still has Misas. Then he gives it (Misas) back to the Task Force using Misa as Kira.
I thoroughly enjoyed your reaction! A lot of people who have watched Death Note hate Light because of who he is, but your the first reaction person I've seen who hates him. Was really helpful and interesting to see how that opinion forms over the course of the show! Also, you are the only one to notice, let alone be weirdly obsessed with Ls toe scenes
also mikami stabbed himself with a pen
Your reaction did not fail. the subscription was so worth being able to see and hear your thoughts on Death Note.
omg what's ur dog's name 😭
teddy (sir Theodore III)
Watching on 420 hits different
Genuinley, ts what I did
420, lol. That was a long brainstorm. XDD Glad you enjoyed the series. Doggo! Got his own chair. ^~^
Thank you for watching death note! After 10 years, still my favorite anime of all time. If you want something similar to death note, I would highly suggest Monster or My Home Hero/Inuyashiki for newer anime
i think you should watch tokyo ghoul, one of my all time favourites
420 bruh....
42:04 bro was pretty quick to open that incognito tab 🧐

Fullmetal alchemist + brotherhood!!!

1:27:35 saferer
Also I know there was a pole for shows to watch but I do thnik you would really like Durarara!!
I discovered your channel from your reaction to this show and I got hooked and wanted to see it all so I came to Patreon. It was great, I am looking foward to the next shows you'll watch

Wild how family guy was the next recommended show at the end there lmfao. What whiplash seeing it go from the final shot of the show to Peter griffin
that’s the only thing i use hulu for besides anime reactions hah
This was such a cool reaction series -- re-experiencing this story vicariously through you was such a cool watch :) Loving the AOT reactions as well
Those scenes aren't deleted. Their from a special that is basically retelling of all of Deathnote from different angles. It about movie length and has little extras with the characters talking over them, like the monster scene.
also ill mention light dies on the stairs to symbolize nor heaven or hell as a rule stated to a user of the book, he died in the middle of the stairs
Another rule is that no humans go to heaven or hell regardless. Thats not a death note rule, thats just something Ryuk said. Nobody goes to either.
the monster was Light. he always lied and he was good at hiding it, u cant win against a liar who looks as if there always telling the truth. L says hes the monster cause hes one of the same as light mentality wise both didnt really eat both didnt really have "friends" Near or nate used that speech to assume Light was kira cause only kira would be smart enough to outsmart L id didnt make it any better that light chose to act and be L either.
idk what the actual cannon is but i always viewed Misa k*lling herself as a forced act after losing 75% of her remaining lifespan before the time skip. As though it was the fate that Light forced her into from beyond the grave and finally killing the last Kira.
“His mom wouldn’t be an orphan” bro what r we talking about Lmao
420, needed to be blazed for that section lmaooo
The live action death note movies aren’t that good btw
Good job w this series
Had such a blast watching you react to this show! I actually really enjoyed the analysis video reaction at the end as well! Definitely include your reaction to them for your other shows!
L wanted to win. He wanted to figure out who Kira was, regardless of the method. He was willing to use the death note and test it, play with the lives of criminals to test Light, basically torture people. He wouldnt be satisfied just stopping the killings Near would never have done it without Mello. Light would have won with his plan. Mello's action allowed him to win. Near was L's brains. Mello was L's ruthlessness. Together they won
It would be cool if he watches a video about the light novel L: change the world
In the manga Kira’s death was covered up. Light was said to have been killed by Kira. The anime also changed the ending. In the warehouse Light begged Ryuk to kill the others and Ryuk kills Light on the spot. I prefer the anime ending.
same, the scene where he runs off is still one of my favorites the manga did it too quick
There's a reason Death Note always gets recommended as a first anime to watch. It's just solid all-around. Great OST, the cat-and-mouse game hooks you in immediately, its self-serious and not too goofy, and it has a lot of clever ways of tricking the viewer into thinking these characters are much smarter than you. Plus everybody loves a little bastard protagonist, a Walter White. I'm looking forward to you getting to some of the really earnest shonen anime, stuff with a heart, thats goofy as fuck but also goes hard. Yu Yu Hakusho, FMA, Hunter X Hunter. But if you want more self serious, mystery or ennui heavy seinen, I'd go for Monster, Cowboy Bebop, Ergo Proxy, et al You're bound to also really enjoy Chainsaw Man and JJK
Can you include "Initial D" in the Anime poll?
420 😭
In response to the thing you asked at the end of your reaction, there's 3 versions of the live action: 1. The Japanese film adaptations: Death Note (2006) , Death Note II (2008), and L: Change the World(2008, spinoff side story), they're quite good though with some slight plot changes since they had to compress it for movie length. 2. The American Death Note(2017) 1.5 hour film adaptation (IMO, as a Death Note adaptation, it's trash. As just another generic crime movie, it's passable entertainment.) 3. The Japanese Death Note(2015) 11-episode TV Drama Series, I personally enjoyed this one a lot and think it's pretty good but ymmv. If you ever want to watch a Death Note live action; the three japanese films and/or the jdrama should be good. I'd recommend against the 2017 American adaptation other than sheer curiosity. Well, that's my opinion. I liked the Jdrama series but I have friends who didn't.
Ahhh the good old light getting plotted out
Yeah, but Light had plot advantage in the first half, where more than once the dude just lucked out for no reason. Losing against a guy who can replicate a deathnote within a night as well as by Mikami not doing as told is unfortunate for Light, but I guess it was the other sides turn.
Read the manga for the second half. The anime closely tracks the manga for the first half of the manga (until L dies). But that’s in volume 7. Out of 12. Anime - 25 episodes for 6.5 volumes. And then 11 episodes for the remaining 5.5. SO MUCH good content is missed and the context makes the second half so much stronger. So much stronger. Read volumes 7-12 of the manga to get the real death note experiences. The anime fully captures the manga for the first half (except no foot washing). I really think you won’t regret it. Now go watch Beserk 1997 (a LEGENDARY and highly controversial finale - don’t get spoiled!), FMA: Brotherhood and continue down this road of good shows that not enough people watch. There’s great stuff out there that gets drowned out by a mix of assumptions, and subpar/problematic content.
I would personally love to see your reaction to the Live action Death note lmao & its a movie not tv show so it wouldnt be super long it may feel like forever though lol
now that its over we can comfortably say that light is a fraud and L and near are smarter than him, also i prefer the manga ending more i think it fits him way more as a character to beg not to die rather than thinking about what his life would be without the death note
The live action death note is really bad. Not even close to the anime.
That garbage ofc it ain't close
why couldn’t ex kira see Lights lifespan and notice he was going to die that day??
because he got killed by ryuk writing in his death note, he would've likely been imprisoned otherwise
Aight, my philosophical ahh is about to go off: In my opinion, what L meant (breaking his speech down sentence by sentence, word by word), was the following: "Lying monsters are a real nuisance, they are much more cunning than other monsters" He's referring to humans here obviously, just human's who always lie and keep a facade and use people for their own benefit, L is like this because he likes winning, so as that Reddit comment explained: L is a "lying monster (a bad person who lies and does whatever it takes to achieve his own selfish goals)" even though the goal is "noble" and "just", i.e. figuring out the detective cases and "catching the bad guys", but also because the lying monsters are "much more cunning (since they always lie and keep a good facade up that is virtually impossible to see through)", they are a nuisance and the most "difficult" for L to "figure out", hence why he'd lose to such a monster of a person. Then: "They pose as humans, even though they have no real understanding of a human heart" Obviously he's referring to humans here, not real "monsters" or "Shinigami" if anybody thought that, when he says "they pose as humans", he means "they (other humans without a heart)" pose as "humans with hearts/souls", they pretend to be empathetic, just as Light did before everybody left the graveyard and left Light behind on his own, Light was "posing as a Human", meaning "posing to be empathetic", and then showed his true colors once everybody left. Then: "They eat even though they've never experienced hunger" Now this one is really hard (the hardest) for me to interpret and is pure conjecture, this is solely my personal opinion that I came to on my own, idk how, but here it is: They (the cunning people) "eat", not food, but desires, their goals, they chase their goals, Lights goal is to become the "God" of the new world, so he "eats" (does everything to justify his means, even if it means killing his own family) so that they (the cunning lying monsters) can satisfy their hunger, but they'll never be able to do it, a narcissist is never satisfied, it is never enough and they always want more, just like Walter White (in the final/final 2 seasons)", he's not talking about food at all, he's talking about "power hungry/money hungry/GOD-COMPLEX HUNGRY (Light Yagami) people or whatever" who always want more and more and more and "eat away" (hurt people, kill people, manipulate people) to satisfy their "hunger" to no avail, they will always feel empty (an empty stomach = an empty soul), with no real "finish line" in sight... They're always hungry for more and will never be able to fulfill their hunger. Then: "They study even though they have no interest in academics" Not really sure what this means, again, this is a leap in logic just like the "hunger" analogy, but again, I don't think he's talking about academics at all, I think he's talking about doing "normal things that people do" to fit in, they (the monsters) "study", they "go to work even though they have no interest in their job" , they "hang out with people (even though they have no interest in befriending them, they just want to use those people and manipulate them for their own selfish desires)" and so forth, I think they specifically used "academics" in this speech because it specifically pertains to Light, since at the very beginning of the show when Light met Ryuk, Ryuk said the following (this is from my memory, I'm not quoting it word for word): "Once you do that, you'll be the only bad person left alive" to which Light responds with: "What are you talking about? I'm an honor student at the top of his class that Japan views as the brightest or some shit along those lines" Basically, Light doesn't care about the fact that he's at the top of his class, he's shown to be a "bored genius" at the beginning of the show, the academic shit is a cover up for who he truly is, Light doesn't care about his acamedic work or actually becoming an investigator one day, he's just doing what "all the other humans do" to "fit in (the mask of the cunning monster)" with the rest of society just to fulfill his hunger/means/goal (become the god of the new world). Then: "They seek friendship even though they do not know how to love" This one is pretty self explanatory, they are soulless, they don't understand human emotions, they just "emulate them" in order to fit in with society, they only seek friendships in order to manipulate the people they befriend for their own selfish benefits and desires. Then, finally: "If I were to encounter such a monster, I would likely be eaten by it" He's just saying that he would be defeated by such a person and the Reddit comment you read basically explained why L feels he's "that monster" himself, just in a different way, he's the same as Light, he's "autistic", doesn't have much empathy, is very logical and not emotional almost at all (Light is the same way, I guess he's just better at pretending to emulate emotions or rather, Light cares about keeping up the "normal human" facade whereas L does not because L pretending to be emotional doesn't help further the investigation, whereas, it benefits Light to pretend to have Empathy for others to avoid being suspected of being Kira) Basically, they both don't have emotions and only do stuff for their own benefit, the only difference is, pretending to be emotional benefits Light whereas it doesn't really change anything for L, hence L doesn't have to pretend to be emotional in order to reach his end goal (catch Kira). Edit: 420, hahaha, nah bro, you ain't stupid, I googled a shit ton as well, I'm not pretending to be a genius who caught all of this on my first watch, they didn't over-complicate anything, they just rushed it (since this was based off of a Manga and the Anime only has 37 episodes), it's way easier to remember shit when you read it than in a 37 episode 20 minute per episode Anime where they sometimes show stuff in 30 seconds in the Anime whereas it was explained on an entire page of a book in the Manga...
wtfff 👏👏👏 good explanation
1:45:20 it’s Mellos motorcycle in the back of the truck with her, she used it to start the fire. Available fuel & spark
420!!!
so sad that its over but i rly enjoyed watching ur reaction to DN! i love all ur vidss
2:26:00 nears name was in the notebook, "Nate Rivers"
Nah bruh remember Near had L and Mello's help.
I actually hate the ending, I would've preferred if light lost due to HIM making a mistake and not Mikami and then an asspull of Giovanni copying down hundreds of thousands of names written over 6 years in another language under a microscope perfectly in a single night is suchhh an insane level of asspull.
Im saying
Bro I’ve watched this show like 20 times at least but never seen the extra scenes before, thank you!
Same so fire
Literally just got food bro, you blessed me
same!
