Having Good Times With The Book of Good Times
This book showed up at my house and wanted me to help it become a human, and I did my best!
I figured there are probably some of you who also have one of these, or who have heard about it, since there's a lot of overlap between my audience and Hank and John Green's audience. If not, the story of the book/journal I'm having a good time with in this video starts in this vlogbrothers video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6m6_ayVvA1Y
I've been a prolific journaler all my life. There's a ton of journaling content around visual aesthetics and stationary products, or introductory journaling skills. But as a lifelong journaler I want stuff that goes a little deeper, and The Book of Good Times comes at things from an angle I hadn't seen before. So I supported the kickstarter, and decided to make the kind of journaling vlog I want to see in the world.
I was looking forward to seeing what other people did with their own Books of Good Times, and didn't check what was out there until after I finished writing in mine to avoid spoilers. To my surprise, I was unable to find a single video with significant content of actually doing the thing. Or maybe that's just Internet Search having evolved into a different beast now that the Information Age is over (sorry, but I'm calling it). But now that I've finally finished editing I understand why there's no popular videos if any, because I severely underestimated how long it would take. Taking such a long time on a single "vlog" feels bad, even though I know that exactly zero of you are going to guilt me about it (which I appreciate!) and it's not like it's a new discovery that I'm a snail.
If you want to avoid spoilers, you can get a Book of Good Times here and the video will be waiting for you after you've had your own good times: store.dftba.com/products/book-of-good-times-soft-cover (they also come in hardcover.) Also, the tea I showed in the video is from good.store/ (they also do coffee, soap, socks, and underwear. The underwear is as good as everyone says. And I like their business model.)
Thank you for being here and supporting all these projects, I'm enjoying going in some different directions year! Say "hi" and I will say "hi" back, and as always feel welcome to modify your subscription as your finances allow. I walk almost everywhere so these gas prices barely touch me, and my videos remain free and public on Vimeo.
🐌,
Vi

Im reading Hank's books, I just happened to remember you and wanted to see what have you been up to. This freaked me tf out. Are we connected? I've been a regular nerdfighter since like 2010 or something. aka times imemorial so.... i dont know how this escaped my radar. Thanks Vi, thanks for the spoiler warnings. I apologize for not reading your text. I will order this book blindly. I dont know what the book wants, I dont know if the book HAS a wants , I dont know if the book is even a book. All I know is that based on my previous experiences with the author, its probably really weird. Im sold. Thanks for the non-info love <3
Hello! I hope you're having good times with your book of good times!
It's so good to hear your videos again! You were one of the first youtube channels I followed because I found your videos at Khanacademy, and your doodle games helped me when I needed something to keep my mind busy. Do you have a bandcamp?
Hello! I don't maintain a presence anywhere else on the internet right now, so you've found the right place! I post about stuff here, and my videos are hosted on vimeo.com/vihart
I am part of this overlap, but I never gave this book much thought. Now that I've seen the first few pages though I feel like maybe this video can wait. Thanks for the inspiration
Yay have fun! When you get to the part with a phone number, the first edition got updated so find the correct number here: https://thebookofgoodtimes.com/
Hey
Hi!

🐌👋🎉
I'm in that Venn overlap of yours and vlogbrothers' audience. They are the only OG YouTubers I still regularly follow (I mean I still watch Veritasium and Minutephysics now and then, but not in the "Oh I must catch up on the missed episodes" sense the way I do theirs). Some of my core foundational Youtube memory from over decade(s) ago is hexaflexagons introducing me to you, and you (somehow) introducing me to them, and my feeling lost watching them at first with the way they address each video to "Hank" or "John". I know your winning grant money from them was a motivation for me to give their videos more of a try until I finally "got" what they were doing, but I don't remember if there was anything earlier that brought me to them.
I'm with you on that! And that they have not only survived on the platform without compromising their integrity, but that they continue to invest long-term in substantial projects (shout out to the Maternal Center for Excellence in Sierra Leone!) is worth admiring and emulating. For the grant I think you might be confusing me with someone else, but my channel did get a huge traffic bump from them sharing it back in the day and they've been personally supportive. Pretty much the only big internet names I'll do free advertising for. The good.store products really are quite good... :)
I am weirdly relieved that I am not the only one who supports Kickstarters and then forgets about the premiums, because the point was to support the kind of thing I want in the world.
I'm glad they did another printing after they sold out of the kickstarter version, so that it can exist in the world but also in my home!
Hi!
Hi!
Hi! I am picking up a couple of softcover copies of the book to gift to niblings, who are in grade school.
Hi! That's when I started journaling, I hope they have a good time!
Hi. 👋
I am pleased whenever you acknowledge that not all Patreon relationships need to be transactional.
Hi! (Maybe I should finish my copy of the Book of Good Times. Thanks for the inspo!)
Hi! (I believe in you!)
