Too much time between updates

Hi guys,

Ever since I have started doing this episodes got bigger, but also the time between updates increased a lot. Initially I was releasing one update every month, then things got more complicated and slowly I have increased the time between updates.

First few episodes had like 250-350 renders and not more than 5-15 simple animations, but ever since I have started doing this as a full time job I got more picky with the work and I spend more time on each render/animation, I keep rewriting some events and so on. The episode I'm currently working on has 1100 renders, 90 animations and a whole more content.

I really like how the game is turning out and in my opinion the game got a whole lot better,  but I want to know what is your opinion about this whole thing. Please be honest. I am not going to hold any grudge or what so ever. I just want to see where you guys are.

What do you think of the way I'm doing things and the time between updates?

I'm fine with the waiting time. My problem is when we wait a lot and the episode is 15 minutes of gameplay. I understand deciding to split it into two, because it was getting big. I don't mind that. i mind calling the rest of the episode, an episode of itself. Like I can't remember if it was Episode 4 of Season 3. It should have just been called Season 3 Episode 3 Part 1 and then Part 2. Just releasing it as two parts, not even the game mentioning it as Part 1 and Part 2. Instead they are called Episode 3 and Episode 4, so the disappointment is bigger that way.

주인공이 샬롯과 데니스랑 빨리 관계 가지는 걸 보고 싶어요. 그렇지만 엉성한 스토리 진행은 바라지 않아요.. 사람이란 참 간사한 거 같아요 ㅠㅠ

As a historical painter I always have to tell people, quality takes time. If you want it done quick hire someone else, but its not going to be anywhere near the quality I will provide.

As long as the games is good I’m fine with whatever. The wait never let me down before so I know it won’t let me down now. ❤️

I prefer quality over speed. With that said, it seems like each dev cycle gets a bit longer. IMO, there will be a point where your brand benefits from establishing an upper limit to the time/update and if this means your intended episode is broken into two parts, I am fine with that. I don't know if you have established that upper limit yet, but I think it is worth considering and, perhaps asking your supporters their thoughts once you are ready to entertain implementing this concept.

Quality is what matter, however I may be the only one here but I don't see a single difference in this game the first episodes were as big as the recent ones, not to mention they were better and monthly, hot take but it's my take.

Quality over quantity. Just don't change the Main Menu music.

your skill shows in this game, if your feeling like your letting us down provide non spoiler renders now and then with your update status. Just DONT flake on us. We wait for great games as long as progress is proven and contact with developer is not cut off. Ps: this doesn't mean you can take forever" being a dik" takes almost a year or more between eps and its fan base is strong.

I also think quality should be paramount but let me play the Devil's advocate and say that you should *not* take as much time as you like or you will certainly lose Patrons. I know you know tihs Jason, hence this poll, and it's a great way to know what your Patrons think about this matter. I actually voted option 2 (The time between updates is a bit annoying, but I'm fine with it) because I'm fine with an episode taking longer from time to time, I just hope it won't hapen too often. I also don't think that a monthly episode is worth it: the quality will suffer, the content will feel very short, etc. So if you aim for an episode every 2 or 3 months, with the ocasional longer update time, I'm OK with that. I'm also OK with not promising release times as that's usually pretty hard to calculate correctly. I would add that you keep us posted about the reasons for potential delays but you already do that wonderfully amd I'm truly grateful for that. Sorry for the long post and thanks for reading my $0.02 to this conversation :)

Years of being a patron for AVNs have helped me develop godlike patience for them. It also made me appreciate AVN devs more along the way. I'm willing to wait as long as I get updates from devs; my only real ask is don't ghost us (patrons)!

The quality have a price. If i have a choice for a long wait for a quality update and short waiting for a less one. I choice the high quality waiting time. What i search is a great storytelling. If he need more time to build one. I wait. I want meat on the bones and this need time. If i compare our release shedule to other developper. Is not so long for what we receive.

No, doubt about it. Your games are up there with the best. Length of time between updates should be whatever it takes to do your best. I would ask that you avoid putting the current game aside while you start a new one, or even some other project. Finish this first within the best time you can. Thanks for the good work you do.

I know from previous post you made that you want to post monthly, as some creators have taken liberties with their patreon's or even not made any progress in ages and you do not want to be one of those. But for me and by looks of it. Most people want a game thats FINISHED as in the episodes. Not buggy or feel rushed. Thats when you lose support. Look at AAA titles now with their deadlines. And end up being really buggy and game breaking. Quality and taking longer to get is fine over speed and feeling rushed snd lackluster. You are a grear creator take your time and continue making quality content. WE WILL WAIT ❤️

In fairness however, at least you dont post constant tiny updates with 5 min of content and then gate it behind being a 20$ patron like a majority of creators. Making people over time pay hundreds or even thousands for one game and then later putting it on steam for 7$ XD.

L
Lonegun · February 3, 2024

Quality>time. Your patron levels however... climb extremely steeply for very little to no benefit. Mabe you should add some levels and do more for sneak peeks? As it is its worthless to be more than candy baron between updates and 20$ for a walkthrough is tantamount to robbery.
