How is everybody doing?
This week I won't talk much about No More Money. Development is going well, but I can't really estimate where I'm at right now. I've finished everything I had originally planned for this episode and I'm currently just going with the flow, writing events that I feel would be nice to have in the next episode. I'm also waiting for the getaway poll to close, and next week I'll get started on that. For those who missed it, patrons over $20 got to vote on where the MC should take Tris and Charlotte once the drama settles.
Dirty Texts - Anthology
As you know, last year I started working on an anthology of stories told in a messaging format. Since I didn't want it to interfere with No More Money in any way, I decided to work on it with a friend. We first built a system that would let us create stories easily without touching the time reserved for NMM. The project has been paused and resumed several times since then, but last month we finally completed a big chunk of it and I was ready to release it, but it got banned.
Here's the full story.
I started this project back when I got into AI image generation, and at the time it seemed like a great fit. But there were some images I simply couldn't create because of AI limitations, and doing them in 3D was out of the question since it's far too time consuming. To give you an idea, one 3D scene for a game like this takes longer than doing 20 for No More Money, simply because every shot is different, different lighting, different setup, while in NMM the scenes are somewhat continuous. So after trying a few different approaches I decided to pause it for a while until we have more time or until AI gets better, but a few months later I have discovered a good artist and I hired him to handle the renders, but after completing one story he ran into serious problems with his rendering machine and had to abandon the project. Around the same time there were some big developments in AI for realistic images, so we pivoted to that.
I'll post a few images below so you can see the whole process, how it started and how it ended up.
Now, here's where the drama comes in.
After the last episode of No More Money, some of you decided I deserved to be reported, either because you didn't like the plot twist, or because you read between the lines and concluded that No More Money is NTR. So you reported me to Patreon. That's fine, because I didn't break any rules. Some posts were removed, but overall everything is okay, except that I need to be more careful what I'm posting, and I can't risk getting my page suspended over a side project.
On top of that, Patreon's guidelines around AI have changed at least three times since I started this project, so the risk just isn't worth it. There's also the practical issue that it would be hard to track who joined the page for No More Money and who joined for Dirty Texts and I wouldn't know how to share the earnings. So I decided the best move was to release it on Steam instead.
Last month I created the page, submitted the game for approval, and expected to release sometime in August or early September. Instead, the reviewer was a bit overzealous and banned the whole project. Not rejected, banned. She determined it was breaking some rule and stated they wouldn't accept it even with modifications, which feels pretty harsh considering there are plenty of games on the platform with similar content. I'm currently trying to reason with them and see if I can recreate the project using the original cartoonish art style or similar, since we've put a lot of weekends into building the system and writing the stories. It's been a while since they responded though, so it may take some time to sort out.
So for now, Dirty Texts is on pause again. I was genuinely enjoying working on it, and spending weekends on something different was a nice change of pace.
Next week I plan on getting really close to ending the writing phase. Currently I'm debating if I should include the whole getaway in one episode or it would be much better to leave something for the next episode as well.

Hey. I'm totally intrigued. Would love the chance to play Dirty texts. Is there a way to download it without using steam? Would be a shame if all your hard work was for nothing.. Some people just can't help themselves from getting involved when they shouldn't. 🤯

I feel terrible that this is something that you had to post to explain your work. It's sad that a person, or a small handful of people, can derail a good project. I'm glad that No More Money was not affected. At the same time, people falling in and out of love while in a marriage is nothing new in any society. I don't understand why people think an choices-matter game's storyline is considered promoting NTR when you literally get to make choices that affect the outcome. Anyways, keep up the great work RC, and hopefully you're have a lot better news to report next week.

I would tend to agree with people who have different opinions than my own to express those opinions in the form of a report .I believe in free speech. However, the reviewers judgement to ban your project seems arbitrary especially since she did not reveal the "Some Rule" use to justify her actions. Sometimes there is an ulterior motive behind a decision when the reasons are vague. And other times, you're stuck with the personal bias of the reviewer. You deserve to have this resolved and I hope that happens.
I love what you're doing! This is your work, not theirs! You just keep doing that voodoo , that you do so well!!

Jason, you do great work, screw the people who may have reported you, clearly they either felt entitled to bitch and complain enough to reprt you because they didn't get what they wanted, well boo fk'n hoo for them, ,they can make their own if they don't like what you do or how you are doing thing, or better yet,, leave,,,,and yes i complain that it takes forever for updates, but i also realize that this shit takes a lot of time and effort that you really don't have to do if you didn't want to,,,,so for my previous comments, i do apologize, but i would never report you for doing what you're doing,,,keep up the kick ass work!!

I didn't pick up anything NTR related with NMM with the MC (I'm on Tris route)...did I miss something? Or are we talking about Erwin being NTR'd? Sad to hear about Dirty Texts - I was definitely looking forward to another one similar to 'Are You Sure'. For feedback on the art - I like the left two columns, but the right column is a little odd - uncanny valley it feels like.
No you didn't miss anything. You just read the whole thing. The Bea part was considered NTR even though she didn't do anything.
People sure can’t let others be happy and enjoy things. I certainly hope things work out. Tho steam sure is doing something strange with adult games cuz other games i follow seem to have some issues too and one similar to your situation had one of their newest projects banned/ prevented on steam.
I can't stand AI or its usage, so with apologies, I dont care much what happens to Dirty Texts, but I'm still sorry you're having to go through all that.

The NTR is okay on patroen and my game doesn't have it. But they got mad because they thought I have added NTR so they decided to report me, for whatever reason they could find.
Hi Jason, thank you for the detailed explanation of your situation. I think that was important. I sometimes wonder who feels compelled to report a developer because they are programming something they personally don't like. Because of NTR? Really? Has anyone ever seen what is posted on Patreon by "Inceton NTR"? I admit that I don't like this genre in any way, but that's why I report a developer? Anyway, the important thing is that NMM continues unchanged, because this is really a wonderful game, even more: a great story! Have a nice and stress-free weekend 🖐

Feeling sorry for you. No More Money is definitively a good novel, without this huge humiliation parts which often are part of NTR stories. And in the pictures above, I cannot see, why you should get banned. But anyway, you have to cooperate with Patreon on this, so I'm sure, you will find a way out of this rabbit hole

to be honest, i don't mind AI if it needs to be used. for example, I'm a writer but i don't have an artistic bone in my body for the non-story stuff. if i were to create a visual novel, it would be a bunch of stick figures.🤣. however, if you know somebody that is artistic, that person should be utilized instead of AI.
How can something being NTR (which I admit I hate as a genre) get you reported? I am sure there are a gazillion VNs on Patreon with NTR, are there not? I actually don't know, have never DL'd a game with the NTR tag, but that seems insane. Anyway, good luck with your side project, and keep NMM rolling along. Love it.

It will not end badly, so don't worry. I can't estimate yet the release of the next episode, but it won't be until November probably
It really is amazing that people who can't comprehend something and jump to the wrong conclusion can affect a great project like NMN :(
They didn't affect No More Money. The game goes on like before. Nothing changed. I just had to go over a few posts, fix some images, or delete them if the posts were too old. I had to remove posts from 4 years ago :)) nobody really cares about those.
