Weekly Report 283 - No More Money

Hi guys,
How is everybody doing? I hope you all had an amazing week!

PROGRESS STATUS
This week, I’ve mainly been focusing on posing scenes and preparing some work for Lovorko(which I'm not done yet).
However, I was held back a bit while setting up the new machine. After spending two days troubleshooting, I decided to call it quits for now at least until the software I’m using releases a more stable version.

If you're not interested in the technical explanation, you can stop reading here.

For those of you who are not interested in the technical explanation the post ends here.

TECHNICAL EXPLANATION
As I mentioned last week, I bought a new rendering machine, which is significantly better than the previous one. Unfortunately, using the Daz 2025 Alpha version is no longer an option. The viewport is extremely laggy. Once I have two characters and a decently sized environment (anything bigger than a small room), the scene becomes almost impossible to navigate.

So, I thought I’d use the old machine for posing and the new one just for rendering. But it didn’t work out. I tried four different scripts for batch rendering, even attempted to write one myself, but nothing worked. I can only render one scene at a time, which doesn’t work well when I’m creating 30–40 scenes per day. Loading them one by one is just not great.

On top of that, I’ve noticed other issues with most of the tools I use inside Daz.

So for now, if you know any developers considering switching to the 50xx series—please tell them to wait. It’s just not worth it yet.

That being said, I wish you all an amazing weekend,
Jason

The problem with the new green goblin cards is that they have less processors than the older generations. For instance compare the amount of DSPs (render units) inside some 3XXX series dies to the amount of DSPs inside the equivalent 5XXX dies and you will be surprised. The improvements you will get from the new card will be less than what you would expect. And then you have the power cables issues. You may want to consider some reviews from places like gamers nexus.

I hear your pain. Daz 4.24 is crap. I wish I'd never updated from 4.23. Laggy as hell. I'm rendering on an RTX 4060 at the moment but I have my new rig with 4070 Super waiting for me to use it (in middle of decorating at mo). I deliberately avoided the 50 series, mainly because of the price, but also because I don't like paying to be essentially a Beta tester, I'd rather wait until the bugs are ironed out. FWIW, I'm rendering a 4k in about 20-30 minutes on the 4060, depending on what's in it.

Yeah, 4.24 is not great, but Daz 2025 is way worse. Currently I'm really happy with 4.24 compared to 2025 alpha version. In my case one machine was failing so I had to buy a new one, so there was no point in going for an older GPU since we have the 50xx. But I didn't know about all these problems

Denise 😍, thanks for the weekly update. Hopefully you can get a stable version of your software Dev. See you and the RC supporters next week!

Yea the 5 series not being officially supported has but a thing running the community for the last few months. Part of the reason my render machine is a 4090. Other part being the gains arent gonna be worth it for single generation gap plus added costs. I havent found much use for the 2025 alpha either.

One of my machines was failing for more than a year now, so I had to update. I was not aware of the situation and since I was using 3090 on the other one I thought it would be worth going to 50xx series
