Thermoformed Christmas Series #3 - Christmas Lights are here!
Number three in the Christmas series is done — a set of thermoformed Christmas lights.
I wanted the big retro bulbs, the ones that used to hang off the gutter and get warm to the touch. So the shell is a mesh thermoform in the classic bulb shape, and the cap is a separate silver screw base with a little loop on top. Run twine through the loops and a few of them become a garland. Hang one on the tree on its own and it reads immediately.
The two halves clip shut with a small connector instead of glue, so it opens back up. Fill it with candy, clip it, hand it to someone. The mesh is doing the work there — you can see what's inside without opening it.
You're getting the full project: the mold, both bulb halves, and the cap, all on one plate, no supports. Three sizes are in there too — small at around 65mm, medium at 100mm, which is the size I print most, and a big one at around 140mm. Mold in PETG, everything else in PLA. Metallic silver really makes the screw base look right if you have some.
Thank you for being here while I build this holiday series out. There are still a handful of models to go before December, and your support is what makes it possible to keep designing them. More soon 🎄
