What type of game would interest you most?

Hey guys, happy new year! This year, I will start with the dev of my game. I have been working in the prototypes of 2 pixel art games, and I’m undecided about which one to create first, I’d be interested in your opinion on what type of game you’d be most interested in.

Game A:

Top-Down RPG inspired in Yume Nikki, Undertale, Touhou project, Ib, Omori, Mad father, The Witch's House. Turn-based fights like Earthbound, Omori with shoot em up mechanics like Undertale and rhythm mechanics that I just invented. Breaks the fourth wall as part of the mechanics like Doki Doki Literature Club!. Story is a girl who lost her memories, lost within an endless darkness, feels like a dream, sometimes like a nightmare. She will face her fears in order to find the exit. Funny NPCs and bosses like Undertale to interact with, but also creepy bosses coming for the fears of the protagonist like Omori. Female high school students, inspired in Jill from VA-11 Hall-A or danganronpa characters.

Game B:

Top-Down Open world RPG inspired in the classic PokΓ©mon games, from blue/red to Black and white 2, With Cozy vibes inspired in Stardaw Valley (but not a farm game) with monster-collecting mechanics, Pixel Art graphics more detailed as my old PokΓ©mon emerald wallpaper. Basically a spiritual successor of the classic games as if game freak had continued the same line of classic PokΓ©mon games after B&W 2 but improving them by adding more features like Online interaction with other players in the open world, with offline mode also available, modern pixel art graphics with a mix of 2D and 2.5D, Castelia City from B&W2 is a good example, Improved UI, resource management, sandbox elements, non-linear progression etc...

Thanks for help!

I think Game A is safer marketing wise, online elements are a bit tough to get right, either sounds interesting enough though

Really tough choice between those two. Fine either way!

I know its not on the list, but a first person dungeon crawler in vein of something like wizardry (or more recently etriean odessy) suits your art style immensely since you wouldnt be limited to small sprites.

Alternatively! I've been looking for a game that scratches the same itch as MapleStory one did. 2D platformer, lot of works to explore, and RPG elements that reward for playing rather than swiping your CC over and over until you roll better stats.

I'd still appreciate Game B if it were a single player only experience. Honestly I feel like including multiplayer elements from the get go will probably cause the focus of development to be too spread out. Obviously you're the game dev, so you know where your resources will be split best but if I were to provide an opinion as someone who doesn't know anything about game dev if you have a really good singleplayer experience and then have multiplayer elements added by the end it would probably make for a less nerve racking timeline. That being said if you made Game A even though it's the unpopular opinion, I'd probably love that game, especially considering Omori and Undertale have all of my favorite RPG mechanics between the two of them, with Shin Megami Tensei elements and Touhou inspired bullet hell battles from Undertale and the quirky highly animated battle effects and unique attacks from Omori. Whatever you think you'd be able to make well I am excited nonetheless.

Thanks! Game B main focus will be single player offline experience. Online mode will be in second place, just like stardew valley or fromsoftware games. I forgot to add touhou for Game A inspiration, Zun is my fav composer too.

I would say Game B but the online side of things seems too much, being a single player game might be a better option.

Yes, I will start with offline and that will be the main focus, It is my first game and I do not want to be ambitious besides my pixel art, so online will be in second If I can afford it and check the feedback firt.

I like the idea of game b seemingly giving us some more variety in cute sprites

I'm kinda worn out on the quirky 4th wall breaking game but that's just me. But there are also a lot of creature collecting style game being released. But I'm going to say B I'd like to how you would go about creature design.

Thanks. I can not say much about the 4th wall breaking in Game A but you will not be disappointed, it will be part of the mechanics and story. For Game B yes there are a lot of poke like games, but most of them shovelwares. When I did the pokemon emerald wallpaper I realized that this could be a game that push my pixel art to the limits and I could not resist trying.

Regardless of game A or game B being chosen, will there be top tier waifus?

Game A: Female high school students, kind inspired in Jill from VA-11 Hall-A or danganronpa characters. Game B: Waifus like PokΓ©mon trainers, leaders and champions.
