Lucy Thomas - Both Sides Now
Hi everyone 💕
Joe and I really enjoyed recording this beautiful song during one of our relaxed live sessions together. Originally written and recorded by Joni Mitchell, “Both Sides Now” is a song I’ve always loved for its beauty and wisdom.
I hope you enjoy our version as much as we enjoyed creating it.
Thank you, as always, for your wonderful support and for being part of this journey with me.
Lots of love,
Lucy 💕

I love this song . I was excited to hear you sing this . Thank you Lucy 😊
Today, 2nd July 2026, I had another listen to this recording on my desktop PC and stereo speakers and it was utterly superb. I have found Laufey (BBC Radio2 rooms video on Youtube) and Emilia Jones which were very special, but Lucy's (and Joe's guitar) sounded and felt a level above those two. Does anyone think Lucy might release this as a single and get a massive hit from it ?
Thank you Lucy and Joe for sharing this song. It was truly lovely. 🫶🏼
What a beautiful song. Her laugh at the end is everything that makes it worth following Lucy to the end of the world. All her songs are shining through with her unique and marvelous personality
Such a delight to hear you sing this favourite. Who is Joe? Is he part of the Cavendish set up or perhaps a member of your boy band. The other day someone mentioned you should have a name for the band. I thought The Wigan Warriors. I sound just right but I guess it might transgress some right to the name from your fave rugby league team whom I am sure you wouldn't want to upset. Thankyou for the music the songs you're singing.
One of my favorite songs. Thank you
So happy to have the world experience America for the first time. I have been battling for Lucy to perform here in US for 3 years. Now that the world is falling in love with the real America due to the football/soccer exposure. I would like all of Lucy’s fans and Lucy herself to image her singing “God Save the King” at an English football match in good old America. Lucy’s fans across the pond would like a concert here in the U.S. What do you say Lucy? Maybe early 2027?
“God Save the King “ is of course Englands National anthem.
Remember this song from my old days beautifully sung by you accompanied by Joe thank you both
Another masterpiece from our Lucy , She could sing the yellow pages and it would be awesome
Lucy, you have made my day again! I have loved this song since I first heard it, and now I love it even more. You have brought so much feeling and emotion to make this song your own. Joe's guitar playing is also amazing, and coupled with your voice can sooth the savage beast. Can it get any better? I think not!!
Absolutely beautiful as are all your songs. Just wish we could see you in Geneva & Annasy but finances will not allow us the pleasure. Will just have to follow you here. Our love to you Lucy xxx
Lucy sings with a very sweet, clear, and emotionally expressive voice. Thank you, Lucy, for this beautiful rendition of the song. I agree with you: in the end, life always remains a mystery, despite all the time we have lived. Bravo to Lucy and Joe, and my sincere thanks to both of you.
We are really enjoying these casual sessions and such a classic all time favorite song. Thank you so much guys💖
Lucy, this song is truly a “track of our life” for we baby boomers. Thank you for reviving it for us in the most beautiful way that only you can do. And thanks to Joe for his delightful guitar accompaniment. Pure joy listening to this spontaneous bit of music collaboration.
Thank you for Both Sides Now. You have done it again, as usual, singing one of my most favorite songs. Also, you have exposed some of your countrymen and women to an excellent song that some were not aware of. Good job
Lucy, you are so much more real in these casual settings but always sound so amazing. You never disappoint, You have such a beautiful voice.
BTJ - Better than Joni!
Beautifully sung Lucy and a great accompaniment by Joe. i loved your chuckle at the end, you really do enjoy your singing bless you.
Hi Lucy, Everytime you sing, you bring emotions out of me that I never knew I had. Thank you for sharing your beautiful voice, the songs you sing and the love you put into it. I can tell you with complete that this version is better than the original and I loved the original version.💐❤️🤗
Wow, this is a beautiful rendition of this old love song by Lucy. I remember parts of the song playing on the radio growing up and hearing Lucy sing this brought back those good memories. That is some time ago! Emilia Jones did a nice version at the Baftas 2022. Lucy somehow made it sound even more meaningful and luscious, amazing.
The radio version must have been by Judy Collins, it was very special.
Whenever I hear this, I'm minded of 'You've got mail' and the original "Shop around the corner", lyrics that were created to inspire discussion and a tune that soothes, it would be possible to hear that tune and feel at ease, however when Lucy sings those words it all comes together to create One peaceful harmony!, Which is the ultimate outcome in the film, !
Where do I even start? This song's theme has a sadness and resignation about it. But somehow your magical voice has made it uplifting. I'm left with the thought that life can be difficult and hard to understand at times but there is always beauty to be found and in the end all is well. Thank you once again.
A perfect way to end my work week and unwind.Had to watch twice.Beautifully done .
Only twice Mike I'm on about my 30th
Lovely, lovely, LOVELY rendition by Lucy and her talented guitarist. Her vocal quality and wonderful tone, restrained phrasing, and with impeccable vibrato, so far reaching it is hard to believe. She baths the brain in gorgeous, luscious sound leaving the perpetual desire for more.
Sally and I both believe this to be Joni Mitchell’s best song. Lucy this was so very excellent! It is now our favorite rendition of the song. Joe and you are marvelous together. Your singing is brilliant, full of depth in meaning and so emotionally connected. You continue to improve on perfection. Thank you Lucy for another best version of a song.
As a Canadian that has grown up with Joni Mitchell i agree that this is the best version
Thanks you so much for this Lucy. One of my favorite songs of all time. Now I get to hear it from my favorite vocalist of all time. This, like all sad songs, is deeply cathartic. I hope you never experience this kind of pain first hand. But it is a part of what it means to be human. You certainly do know what sorrow is from first hand experience. In music one sorrow always always informs other sorrows. I truly loved Fields of Gold. And then this. You made my week. The interesting thing is that I remember hearing the Joni Mitchell version for the first time. I found it terribly depressing. Hearing you sing it though all I feel is thankful and healed. That is your gift to us all.
What you say here Mike is so true and probably relates to a large proportion of us
I’ve been hoping you’d sing Both Sides Now for a bit. I am sure glad you did! It was fantastic just as I thought it would be . Joni Mitchell, Emilia Jones, and the best for last….Lucy Thomas!!!♥️♥️♥️
Happy Birthday, Ian. You got me by six months. I am 74 and a half. Like you, I listened to this song as a teenager. I have not heard this song in years. Lucy, you sounded breathtakingly beautiful in your interpretation of this song. If I had a granddaughter, I could not ask for a better one than you. God bless you! 🎅❤️
Thankyou for your birthday wishes Ken and I concur on everything you say about Lucy
FANTASTIC. AS USUAL. THANK YOU, LUCY, FOR ANOTHER GREAT SONG.
I‘m usually quite “protective” of songs that have been covered by Hayley Westenra before. Joni is one of her favorite artists and she released a wonderful rendition of “Both Sides Now” in 2005 which is on her second album “Odyssey”. Her version is of course a soprano one but your melodic pop approach isn’t any less fabulous and this is likely the greatest praise I could give to anyone. Only another one of my “4Angels of Music” like yourself could do it, Lucy. 😉🌹
Absolutely love Lucy's voice, but not the song or this particular genre of older music. I look forward to Lucy's next release.
I remember that song so well, you always manage to add the lucy effect to everything you do, it was beautiful Lucy, and Joe's accompaniment was stunning. Thank you for another classic 🩷
Lucy this is remarkable just a great heartfelt delight and an emotional version of this song. I really enjoyed it. Thanks for sharing it. I also enjoyed Joe's playing. Love 💓 to you and all your family
Great job to you both! Like her young lady your an experience to listen to. Don’t ever get discouraged after all music critic wrote what’s a twenty year old know about life. Well I’m 74 now well it’s a song well more then ever will. Might be your journey, but to myself you are a listeners experience! Thank you for each time I hear your voice every day becomes better!
Deep! I heard more in this version than I've heard before. Now if I can just get rid of these goose bumps!
Thank You
Stunning version of a beautiful song - love it! Xx
Another brilliant song , totally love it
Thank you Lucy and Joe for this lovely revival of Joni Mitchell's hit song in that generation. This goes back a long way and reminds me how beautiful and meaningful many of the lyrics were in that era. This was one of my favorites.
Your rendition of "Both Sides Now" was heartwarming! I remember when Joni released it in the "60s. My previously favorite cover was by Neil Diamond. Your cover was just as good! Keep it coming! God Bless!
Absolutely beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
It is time to say: Thank you for your music.
Once again...well done you! I know the song from lovely covers by Jackie Evancho and Emily Linge. Now,I have yours. I feel that you own this song. It is very much your personal interpretation... and all the better for that! The simple guitar accompaniment is unobtrusive but very effective. (Incidentally,Joe looks quite like my late Uncle Joe, in his younger days. He was a singer and guitarist and songwriter...a good one too.❤️ ) I'm so pleased I signed up for you on Patreon. My goodness, I would have missed out big style if I hadn't! 😀❤️👏
Yes Lucy, one of Joni Mitchell's best self penned songs!,actually made famous by Judy Collins,( no relation to me bye the way!😄),Joni recorded the song for the album "Clouds" released in 1969!.,one of my Granddaughters is named Joni after J.M.& her sister is called Martha, two great names!😃,I Don't have a Granddaughter called Lucy, but i do have an honourly one!😃🥰.
This song is timeless Lucy. It has been with me throughout my adult life and it always makes me stop and reflect on the times and the loves of my life. Your heartfelt performance touched my heart and soul in a most beautiful way and I thank you for sharing this with us. Simply beautiful by you and Joe.
Heartfelt words Christopher
THANKS, Lucy! I'm sure I speak for all my fellow Patreonites (is that a word?), that you brighten our day EVERY time you post another beautiful song. I always enjoyed Judy Collin's rendition, but you, as always, bring heart-felt emotion to your versions which bring the song to another level.
Lucy, my dear, I just wanted to say thank you to Joe and you for this beautiful song today. I was on my way back from the cemetery when you drop this on Patreon. Today is the 17th anniversary of my wife and son accident that took their lives and this song couldn’t have been more appropriate for me to hear today. It gave me peace and comfort. Thank you Lucy and Joe for this wonderful song.
My thoughts and prayers are with you Dan, on such a poignant day. I'm happy that Lucy's song is helping you.❤️🙏
Lovely song, beautiful performance, refreshing laugh at the end, magical as always, thank you..
How my Ulster gal of 59 yrs. would have loved your rendition of this; altho' she "fell asleep" last yr., we had both enjoyed your heartfelt expressive singing for the previous 2-3 yrs. prior! ...as an Irish lass she was blessed with a melodious voice (not to compare), thus we both were blessed with your gift of connecting with our heart-strings💕 Thank you!
I’m sorry to hear this Klaus, sending love, Lucy x
Hard to believe this classic has been around nearly 60 years and covered by over 1500 artists. One of my favorite all time songs and it puzzles me what may be best accompaniment. I enjoyed Lucy's laid back relaxed approach but would love to see her sing this with a full orchestra
I've watched this several times now and I'm finding it reminiscent of A STAR IS BORN
Another beautiful song sung perfectly with emotion and such beautiful tone, music just doesn't get any better than when its performed by Lucy. ❤️ x
Oh, that is such a beautiful song, and you made it even more beautiful Lucy🎶😍👏 Thank you🙏🥰
You do Joni justice. (Her music suits you!) That I feel your emotions as you sing is a gift. With heart felt affection. Rob

Superb as always, you have the uncanny ability to pick all the songs I love 🙂❤️
Isn't that the truth! I've been thinking that for a long time now and I love it!
Lucy, you've done it again. You've taken an old classic that has been done by so many artists so many times, and you've made it entirely your own. With your beautiful, flowing voice in perfect sync with your beautiful expressive face, and add some beautiful guitar playing by Joe (who was also brilliant in your previous release of "Fields of Gold"), and this session has given us two wonderful songs to touch our hearts. Thank you, Lucy. Thank you, Joe.
Beautifully sung as always, Lucy ❤️😍 I had a feeling your phone was going to end up on the floor 😅 Thankfully it waited until the end of the song. Loved your reaction and laugh at the end ❤️
That was so beautiful Lucy even though I am familiar with the song as always when you perform it. It's as if I have never really heard it before. Your voice and the emotion you convey just makes it so very special.

Hope you feel better Susan. Sending love and Lucy vibes. 😊❤️
Lovely relaxing song, sung beautifully by Lucy with Joe’s usual excellence in his guitar accompaniment, it revived some delightful memories of yesteryears. Couldn’t help to notice the book on the shelf “ The Narrative -Song Writing Camp”, just wondering is Lucy mapping out a parallel path writing her own songs, another part of this enchanting Lucy journey.
Wouldn't that cap it all Hugh
This is the best version ever. So beautiful. And it is so wonderful just to hear your voice, Lucy, with Joe's excellent acoustic guitar. A pure joy. Thank you for another Sunday gift, Lucy.
