Honest Government Ad | Carbon Credits & Offsets
Dear Patrons
Here's the latest Honest Government Ad you've helped us to produce!
As you've probably heard by now, Scott Morrison has announced the election for May 21st.
Hopefully, it will spell the end of this government. It's hard to imagine how it can be re-elected after the endless litany of lies, scandals, rorts, and derelictions of duty. But then again, many of us also felt that way in 2019. So let's not take our eye off the ball.
Either way, this HGA will be the final installment in our climate shitfuckery series for Season 2 of the Honest Government Ads (which will conclude with the coming election).
Thanks to you, we've covered the key pillars of this government's climate policiy: their Kyoto carryover credits, EVs (FFS), Carbon Capture & Storage, conflicts of interest at GISERA/CSIRO, Hydrogen, COP26, Net Zero by 2050 and more...
With millions of views between them, these HGAs have helped people better understand the ways in which this government has not only failed to address the climate crisis, but also rorted public funds to benefit their mates (donors) in the gas industry.
And in many cases, these HGAs have also applied to other governments too.
Sure enough climate shitfuckery will continue - if not here, certainly around the world - so fear not: with your support, we'll continue making HGAs about climate and energy policy.
And of course, we do have more Honest Government Ad action coming up before the election. So stay tuned for our Season 2 finale.
Before I sign off, I wanted to say a word about why I chose this topic so close to the election.
The thing is, regardless of who wins, carbon credits and offsets are going to be crucial for the decade to come. Right now, both major parties (and many world governments) are leaning heavily on carbon credits to achieve their net zero targets. But we all know carbon credits are not the answer to the climate crisis: stopping burning fossil fuels is.
However, we do also need to offset some emissions on the way to eliminating all emissions (in hard to abate sectors). And that is why we can't just bin them: we actually need a carbon credit scheme with integrity which we can trust during the transition. (But they must be Offsets, not Fuckoffsets!)
Unfortunately most people don't understand how carbon credits and offsets work, let alone the way they're being rorted. And that is why I've dedicated this HGA to this topic on the eve of the election.
Well, that's enough from me for now.
I'll be back shortly with the podcast companion for this HGA.
Until then, take care
Giordano

Until the world population is reduced to around two billion total, nothing is going to save the planet.
Thanks for this and also thanks for qualifying that offsets themselves are not the problem, but shit offsets issued under a corrupt scheme are a huge problem. Offsets do work if they are genuine, but alas this government and the opposition appear committed to perpetuating outright fraud on us all.
Unfortunately, then came the profanity - it adds nothing and detracts from the urgency & integrity of the message.
Some of us enjoy the salty talk. There will be a PG version out soon enough.
Sheer brilliance as always and the first half totally PG - thus available to watch at work, with kids or oldies and put FTA.
Bravo to this cheeky duo and to Juice Media and the Australia Institute for ceaselessly exposing the entire fossil fuel con job, ie, the industry, government, Murdoch Media and investors. My nagging question is, should we do what we must and first and foremost and drastically reduce extraction, use and export of coal and gas BEFORE alternate revenue production is in place, how will our coal dependent country survive economically? I believe this is a question at the heart of many voters wanting to address climate change but perplexed about the HOW. WIthout substantial and concrete plans made and declared, the LNP propaganda bullshit will win out,I fear( just as you so clearly show is so cynically happening with the unconscionable carbon credit connivance.) HELP?
Keeping kicking them in the painfully sensitive region! I think I would be feeling suicidal if there weren't intrepid crusaders like you exposing this toxic hypocrisy.
Alarming, depressing, engaging, humorous and once again...brilliantly researched. Not sure how Giordano and the team do not require therapy. Dealing with uncovering and reporting this stuff on a daily basis is a VERY tough gig... even though delivered through humour. Stay strong guys. Respect.
excellent, well done
Love. Your. Work! Living in Germany at the moment and Australia is 15+ years behind in terms of taking action against climate change. I didn't realise just how far until I saw it for myself (although Germany still has a long way to go too). Depressing, and there's not much light at the end of the tunnel unfortunately, unless Aussies finally wake up and demand change. Juice Media doing their bit though. Share, share, share!
Well done again. This very succinctly highlights yet again that we don't have a government who care about reducing our carbon footprint. Gas lobbyists getting the plum jobs still!!! Hopefully there will be enough pressure on labour to indeed do the rigorous auditing needed.
Such an important topic if our governments are to successfully peak, then reverse emissions. Sadly inevitable that offsets would become one of the next battlegrounds, what with corporate PR still allowed so close to the levers of power. Great then that we now have this vid as a quick intro so the wider public can even find out that there is a risk with 'net zero' pronouncements. We SO need to redouble our efforts this election so that the balance of power ends up with sane Independents, who can then negotiate an inquiry into this BS & for once actually get all recommendations implemented. Go us!
That this morning's Newspoll has the parties at 53-47 when the incumbent government is incompetent and bad faith is depressing. Any suggestion that the ALP might not be the answer implies that this is a choice between respectable options - but it is not.
Always love seeing the great creativity and it is correct to be sinking the boot into both major parties. Fuckoffsets are pure greenwashing.
Great timing. Now to get it out there and out there and out there. It's amazing that real investigative journalism is the small independents like yourselves, Jordan Shanks and Michael Wests...while mainstream media is little more than propaganda and public relations. You are more important now than ever. Thanks for all you do.
Brilliant job. Interesting topic with the 'emission offset'. Well done.
Nice work! Particularly like that you hammered home the summary at 3:00 Always wondered, what's stopping the polluters from setting up a shell company, purchasing ultra cheap marginal grazing land, like mallee scrub, kicking off the cows and harvesting credits for, no cows, no cutting down 'trees'. Effectively buying carbon credits from themselves = win, win! The credits are worth more than the land, the last time I ran through some casual calculations.
It's probably cheaper this way. Politicians are cheaper than land and they protect your business from a lot more problems. Capitalism will always find the cheapest way to make money.
You guys crack me up every time! Ansd you make me cringe. And cry.
I always love the calculator part’s hahaha. Another great piece of work guy’s 🤙🇦🇺. Just an fyi, as I’m new to your channel and was a tad devastated to find you’ve been around for a few years and i had no clue. Now i only watch independent media my spirits and alot of faith in my countrymen has returned, i thank you for that. Also, i had no idea about the kyoto credit’s and how bad Australia has actually been on the world stage and especially to our neighbours, that was difficult to learn, i hope this election can bring some big changes all around.
Good Gaia Almighty! The entire dog-and-pony show is nothing more than a fncking shell game to con citizens into thinking fuckoffsets will help mitigate climate change, while in reality the fossil fools are producing more and more and more greenhouse gases. I am disgusted with their selfish greed, and heartbroken to contemplate what is going to happen to this world over the next 10, 20, 30 years as a consequence. Spread this exposé far and wide so that people catch on to the duplicity and demand an end to it, at least with their votes.
