This one is for our friends in Canada who are having a pretty rough time leading into their next election.
I wasn't planning to make a video about Canada's election - which will take place on April 28, just a few days before ours here in Australia (May 3). But I received a call for help from a Toronto-based satirist telling me Canadians are genuinely worried about the shitshow south of their border, not to mention Trump's threat to annex them as the 51st state. And they don't even have preferential voting!
So Aaron from The Goose Media and I teamed up again to write a quick HGA for Canada. As you know, I love these collaborations across borders, and it's a great chance to learn from each other's shitfuckery - in this case, Canada desperately needs electoral reform (as does the US and UK for that matter) - which is why we decided to make this the call to action.

Hello Giordano, a further followup to your previous HGA and request for video ideas: I feel like this list of a fact-checks from the Guardian, fact checking the BS that Dutton espounged in his budget reply speech, would make a great foundation for an HGA. It's a helpful framing for the Coalition's shitfuckery over a decade and Labor's inability to change major internationa geopolitical shifts during their own term. As an Aussie living in Canada this one was gold. Chemo and PC points??? 🔥 I desperately detest having to vote strategically, and will never forgive JT for dropping that ball. Many of us are hoping Carney will campaign on his stabilising economics etc to bury Maple MAGA PP and then lean in to his social side of UBI, environment etc once elected. #elbowsup

Hey I think you've confused Proportional Representation with Preferential Voting. The video espoused the benefits of the former, but gave an example of the latter. Proportional Representation is when the proportion of seats a party wins is proportional to the number of votes they receive. It works really well, and is in use in New Zealand, and I think a few European countries. Amongst other benefits, it means no more pork barrelling and co-operation between parties. Preferential voting is what we do in Australia. The ideal would be to combine the two, but I can't see that happening any time soon, in any country.
Hi Fraser, there are many types of proportional voting systems; the ballot we used as an example uses one of these: Single Transferable Vote or Proportional-Ranked Choice Voting: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Single_transferable_vote
