This one required tons of research, and lots of time spent chatting with people around the world to find out about their local elections and the issues we should mention. (I love this collaborative approach!) I hope you like how it turned out.
As you probably know, this is is the biggest election year in human history - over 4 billion people are eligible to vote. Which, it has to be acknowledged, is an incredible achievement considering that less than 2 centuries ago there were no state democracies around to speak of.
At the same time, it's clear that some governments are only cosplaying at democracy - using the tools and language of democracy to undermine it from within. And not surprisingly, the global index of democracy is in decline.
The HGA series has played a role in highlighting government shitfuckery over the years. But as I hope you know, we don't this to undermine trust in democracy; we do it precisely because we care about democracy and we want it to succeed. Unlike anti-democratric forces, that is, which aim to sow distrust in democratic institutions in order to undermine and destroy them.
So that's what this Honest Government Ad is all about.
As you'll see, India gets the lion share of this episode. We've had thousands of requests from Indians to make an HGA for them, so we gave the Chosen One a good shot. I'm sure we'll be getting some complaints from his fans. I should probably scratch off India from my list of holiday destinations - along with Iran and Indonesia.

I am not sure any country is a Democracy any more. Pseudo Democracy is more like what we have here in the USA.

Was the little 'black out' at the close of the South Africa segment deliberate or was that Youtube censorship? Happily democracy seems to have survived in India where Modi lost so many votes he now has to, for the very first time, lead a coalition parliament!

Political comedy is damn hard to do, and this is good but the Sheinbaum smear should be dropped, it's the rightwing's narrative to discredit her. Where's the actual evidence that she's amlo's puppet? All conjecture

Giordano & Team - another classic for the ages - what (almost) unbelievable times we live in... everywhere you look democracy under the hammer. Would you please consider doing a HGA on [non]"transparency" at some stage in the lead up to the next Oz election please? Possibly also one on why inflation (cozzie livin' - arrrrrggghhhh) remains so stubbornly high - i.e. is it because rich bastards just keep spending a shit tonne of $$$$ and the abysmal wealth disparities mean that no matter how much the less well off or poor have to hand over in rent, food etc the inflation Rumpelstiltskin is not going to come to a stop? Or could you do another one of your intermittent interviews with Yanis Verafarkus please - I just read his new book Technofeudalism and I think its actually fairly much on the money (so to speak). Keep up the great work, proud to support such stellar talent in a world full of murky media mediocrity.

Thank you for shining a light on the situation in India. The Indian PM gets away with a lot on the international stage because his most violent rhetoric is often coded in the vernacular. For context, the largest right-wing organization in the world, RSS, is in India. Their founders were inspired by Nazi ideals in the 1930s and their vision for India is antithetical to democratic principles. The RSS was complicit in the assassination of Gandhi and the PM is part of their political wing - the BJP. Followers of the current dispensation are already drawing inspiration from genocidal acts around the world.

As far as future topic subjects…….you could have a lot of fun pointing out how ridiculous the COALition’s nuclear power plan is. The “small” modular reactors that they are pushing don’t currently commercially exist, nor are there even any facilities to make them. Keep up your great work battling shit-fuckery from politicians of all persuasions.

This ad couldn't be more timely and apropos! Here in Yankeeland, our Convicted Felon candidate and his cult keep screaming that we don't have a democracy, but rather a "constitutional republic." Talk about stupid distractions! The real truth is that we now live under an Oligarchy, which is gaining more and more power worldwide. It's high time we finally had a democracy, like Abraham Lincoln envisioned: "OF the people, BY the people, FOR the people." Oh… and Zoë: you nailed it again!
