Planning for Dokomi – Thoughts?
Hi everyone!
This will be my first time participating in Dokomi in Germany, and I’m not very familiar with what German fans usually prefer. Do you think books or prints would sell better?
I’m asking because bringing a lot of books would be quite heavy, and I’m also a bit worried about having to carry unsold copies back to my country.
I’d really love to hear your thoughts and suggestions. Thank you so much! 😊

Postcards, a5 prints, stickers, keychains sell good. Mostly because it is easy to carry and you can "spread" your spending in the artist alley and get stuff from every artist you like. Artbooks do sell, but maybe a poll beforehand would be good to make an estimate on how much you need. Also if you got limited batches of more expensive stuff it is actually useful to put a sign next to it. Sometimes I find an Artbook or keychain I want, but I tend to check all artist alley first. When I come back it's gone, because they only brought 3 pieces. That is a bit frustrating - and FOMO increases your sells 😂
Dokomi is visited by not only Germans ;) The distances in the EU are small and we travel free between the countries so visiting a con is easy. You can do what the Korean artists do - reservation before the event to receive during the event so that you know how much to bring. You can set limits on the reservation form as well. Helps with planning on both sides, artist and buyers. Of course, you can bring more than the reserved but for the bulkier things like books this helps a lot. And for people who group and send 1 representative to the con this is huge help for early planning and organization :D
I did consider making a reservation, but I’m a bit worried since it’s a pre-order and no payment is required. I’m afraid they might not show up. I’ve had that experience at other venues before.
Last year was possible to pay via paypal - the artist tells the final price, have the paypal QR code for scan and the buyer shows the payment is complete, the artist verifies and gives the purchase. I know at some places on Dokomi the wifi was bad but I had a lot bought via paypal. You can think if this as possible payment option.
Ah... i hate work for cancelling my vacation for Dokomi.... i would definitly be more interested in prints and keychains! Ill definitly tell my friend to get me something from your booth
First of all: Get a Room near Duisburg Main Station. Reason is, the line from there runs to the Con without the hordes of People from Düsseldorf Main Station. So if you do public transport, that's ideal! If you need someone who can talk German and English(some French too) I volunteer. If you need a 15€ bag of snacks and quick meals, I'll deliver gladly. In my experience as an artist alley artist, the individual Sketches for 5-10€ were my best sellers, signed prints and post cards, and least bigger stuff. I personally go by: Quality, Character/Ship, Artstyle and Buget, so if someone is selling favourites I am willing to pay more. Hope thid helps. If you need anything private: Illien_galene on instagram the best way to contact me.
Ahh… We had already booked the hotel when we got the booth. Do most people speak English in Germany? What types of payment methods are used at events other than cash?
Omg I'm so excited hearing you're coming to DoKomi! I always wanted to buy something from you in person! 🥹 I think prints, keychains or acrylic standees would sell pretty good but I'd also die to buy your ratiorine art book 🥹🤍
Looking forward to seeing you there!
Maybe you can do a Poll on the Artbooks? I would love to get your Rationrine Artbook! 😍 And yes, besides prints I also like acrylic keychains, stickers and little merch stuff a lot. ☺️
I also come from Germany and agree with Shiho! But als would buy a book !
I guess I can agree to thag, I am not from Germany but from Luxembourg. I wish I could go there ... so close. I would buy A5 or A4 prints as well. I just love your art 🥰
If possible, I’d really love to see you at the convention. 😊
I‘m from germany too and I would agree with Shiho. We mostly like prints in A5 or A4 XD
I agree with shiho! I like a5 size a little more, because its a little smaller as print :3 I'm at dokomi and i love to buy a5 size and maybe, if the artist have some, acryl standees :D Oh and i love to buy prints with couples/shippings on it😏😍 And OH MY GOOD YOU ARE AT DOKOMI😍😍😍i'm so happy and excited!
Considering the weight, I’ll try to bring mostly A5 size books. I’m more curious whether the adult area will have fewer people though, haha.
Hey! I'm from Germany and we love prints, stickers, pins and acryl key chains. Books are good too but you will see most of the exhibitors will sell. (I'm at the Dokomi too and I would buy prints and books. xD) One advice: prints should be in diffrent sizes. A5 and A4 are the most favorite ones. c:
I’m curious — would Germans be interested in original comics? Since I’ll be in the adult area, I’ve been thinking about bringing some of my own original works. Which fandom does a German usually find more interesting?
