110: Who the Hell is Michael Tracey? feat. Bobby Silverman

We're back with another installment in our critically acclaimed "Who the Hell?" biographical series, this time sitting down to scrutinize Michael Tracey: a contrarian writer and social media personality who has managed to draw a surprising amount of attention to himself throughout the Trump era.

Jared and Mike are joined by guest Bobby Silverman to review the arc of Tracey's career, from his early run-in with police at an Ann Coulter event to his eventual rise in media as a pugnacious hater of political pundits and journalists. This episode explores how Tracey, a self-described "roving journalist," has channeled his resentment for contemporary media into attention-seeking episodes of confrontation and contrarianism that have earned him fans among right-wing audiences.

After this episode, the corrupt woke media will never be the same.

Incredible that on Bluesky, after Tracey inserted himself back onto the TL, that people are actually woke scolding others about not calling him ugly jfc

Mike just casually recalling lyrical gems (@24:33, Nas’s “My man saw it like Dionne Warwick…”). Your other favorite journalists could never.

Next to Portnoy, arguably the most repugnant (and unpleasant looking) individual the Who the Hell is? Series has covered

Hillary was not wrong, whether you like it or not.

Certainly not the way I would have advised her to tackled the issue but, right, she wasn’t exactly wrong! -JH

Wow, another banger. Tracy is one of the Chuds I kind of missed. My collection is getting more complete. Also, Thank you for continuing your user-music aspect. I’m looking forward to looking up Bering Sea

All of his prose creates the sensation of farting into a wine glass and inhaling deeply while wearing a monocle.

I fiercely stroked by chin hair contemplating the term “Tracey Pilled.” I AM NOW MICHAEL TRACEY: PITCH: I Drove Through 14 Rust Belt Diners and What I Found Will Make the Resistance Crowd Very Uncomfortable I am not a Trump supporter. I want to be clear about that. I have said this in 47 previous columns. But when I watched the media collectively lose its mind over Trump’s latest remarks, I knew someone had to say what no one with a platform was willing to say, which is what I say every week to my 280,000 followers. The piece would run approximately 4,200 words. The core argument is nuanced: have we considered that the people calling Trump authoritarian are themselves being authoritarian, by calling him that? I explore this through a road trip I took, at my own expense, through communities the laptop class has never heard of, such as Ohio. I am the only journalist asking these questions. I verified this by searching my own name. Sidebar: I will need a correction appended to my previous piece. It turns out the thing I said was fine was not fine. However, the correction should note that my critics are still worse. Working title: “On Trump’s Proposal to Deport Citizens: A Needed Corrective to the Hysteria” Alternate title: “Why I’m Not Saying This Is Good, I’m Saying You’re Bad For Noticing” I am available to discuss. I will not be changing anything.

Honestly I'm more surprised by his voice than his age. He's sounded like the simpsons comic book store guy in my head for nearly a decade. I'm shook.

Would have been great if this was a who the hell was, “Tracey, who was beaten to death last month next to the communal waffle iron in a Hampton Inn by Jim Acosta…”
