IDSG Bonus 15: LA Confidential (1997)
In which Jack and I talk about the 1997 film LA Confidential and Jack explains the problems of James Ellroy (author of the original novel, and the series it lies within) while also acknowledging the brilliance of his work.
I started reading the book LA Confidential after we recorded this (having never read Ellroy previously) and expect some Ellroy to show up in these bonus episodes in the future.
Also, Kevin Spacey is very likely a rapist and certainly a terrible person. He was also in a lot of great movies in the 1990s, in which he was almost uniformly excellent. I hate having to watch him these days but to deny his work is to deny the complexity of the world we live in.
Thanks as always for your support. I really enjoyed this chat and personally learned a lot. Take care of yourselves and enjoy.

I’ve seen this movie many times and I enjoy it. I also suggest the Ralph Fiennes version of Coriolanus for a movie episode. I’m told fascists love Coriolanus and watching this cut I can see why.
Thanks, that was a fun discussion. I like this movie as well but found it disturbing because as you say it shows things as how they are.
My wife pointed out a while back that Spacey has a home court advantage because nearly every role he plays a huge piece of shit.
