Anne Boleyn will always be #1 in my heart. If past lives exist, I fully believe I was one of her ladies! Despite reading tons of historical fiction that strays from the truth, I absolutely REFUSE to read anything of Philippa Gregory’s bc of her total character assassination of Anne!!! I also love her daughter Elizabeth!
There are so many women I’d love to choose but lately I’ve had Katherine Howard on my mind. Just with how short and sad her life was, I can’t help but wonder how she felt about all the events that happened to her. I also love Anne Boleyn, Empress Matilda, and I’m fascinated by Elizabeth Bathory.
Empress Matilda and Eleanor of Aquitaine! And even though they technically aren't queens I love Abigail Adams, Betty Ford, and Eleanor Roosevelt (side note, I just listened to The History Chicks episode on Alice Roosevelt and WOW)
Queen Catherine of Aragon and Mary Tudor Queen of France (for a short while) I feel like they were close from what i have read and i want to know more..I know that Mary Tudor side with her sister in law and not the King.
Marie Antoinette and Queen Charlotte! Even though they never met I love that they were such close friends and that Charlotte even set up a place for the royal family if they were able to escape 🥲
Georgiana Cavendish and Bess Foster. Their story is filled with so many twists and turns. It is also the Queens podcast that made me a huge fan.
Mary Queen of Scot's and Lord Bothwell
Isabella of France aka she-wolf, and Catherine the Great! They looked at everything their husbands were doing and said “I can do better” and they did! They were even supported by men during a time where history was a bag of di**s
Ok, no exactly pals but their relationship is super interesting and I'd love to know more about their interactions...Emma of Normandy and Ælfgifu of Northampton!
I do love the dynamic between Queen Elizabeth 1 and Mary Dudley! She famously nursed the Queen back to health after smallpox in 1562, which left her disfigured, that level of friendship to where you’d willing be near a deadly disease is in insane.
Margaret of Austria and Louise of Savoy seem like such a cool pair. Tbh, kind of a dream blunt rotation
In mythology, I definitely choose Persephone as she is the original snowbird! Plus she could keep her relationship fresh and exciting with Hades by only having to spend 6 months out of the year with him. Talk about freedom! I’ve also been fascinated with Marie Antoinette as she was given a bad rap—the original gossip rag fodder.
I love Agrippina the Younger, her story is just so complex and she’s always scheming to get what she wants no matter the cost. Once I listened to your guys episodes on her I had to learn more, she’s just so interesting to me, as are a lot of other ancient Roman women. ✨
Aud the Deep Minded. She was the head of a powerful household, arranged marriages, was incredibly powerful, and a great leader.
Grace O’Malley and Anne of Cleves!
maria christina and princess isabella of parma! their story is so sad. isabella deserved better
Margaret King and Mary Shelley! Both iconic ladies in their own rites. Margaret King was originally Shelley’s mom, Mary Wollstonecraft’s, friend. But when Wollstonecraft died, King became more of a friend and helper to Shelley and her travel companions. King also snuck into medical school by cross-dressing to pass as a man (super badass). I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall for the conversations they had!
Anne Bonny and Mary Read…because who doesn’t love lady pirates?
Virginia Woolf and Vita Sackville-West (I know they were lovers too) but I loved how Vita was Virginia’s cheerleader!
Jacquetta of Luxembourg and Margaret of Anjou. I have to admire how close they were through a lot of trouble and how their relationship went on to impact the course of a war!
Fredegund and Brunhilda… not exactly “pals” as much as “mortal enemies”, but my oh my do I love their bloodthirsty rivalry and evil, conniving ways 🔥 #frenemies #toxicrelationship
Mary Queen of Scots and the four Mary's!!!
Lady Katherine Grey and Lady Jane Seymour!! Jane had Katherine’s back NO. MATTER. WHAT. miss girl gets married in secret (against Elizabeth i’s orders)? Jane’s there for her. Gets imprisoned because of this? She’s got Kathy’s back! Has a whole ass baby in prison (but fr why did they keep her with her baby daddy if they were mad ab their marriage?) JANE IS THERE FOR HER
Also going with Bess Foster and Georgiana Cavendish! Their relationship might be unconventional and may or may not have been romantic but there is no question that the two of them deeply deeply cared for each other. I think that they pushed each other to be better versions of themselves and they both pushed the Duke to be a nicer version of himself (which still wasn’t great but was better than before).
Eleanor of Aquitaine of course! She was tough, brilliant, and took no nonsense from the men in her life ( except the whole prison thing).
Marilyn Monroe and Ella Fitzgerald - Marilyn is not given enough credit for how progressive she was for her time. She loved Ella’s music and used her own power to get Ella the chances she deserved in several situations (I think the Mocambo night club story is now kind of disproved) but overall their friendship is a nice example of women lifting up other women
I am here for Anne of Cleves! Survivor of a tyrant / man child, able to fit in & roll with any crowd , mastermind of a beautiful addition to Heaver castle, mother figure to E1- amongst SO many other amazing qualities she is the epitome of girl boss!! 🙌❤️
I have to go with Yes Bess and Georgiana! I’ve listened to that series a number of times, I think it’s so funny! I really like how messy their relationship was, and how at the end of the day Bess supported Georgiana even though she could have used the animosity between G and the duke to push herself forward!
