I was raised in the church and it is wild how many things you learn and you’re just like “ok yeah” and it’s not until you leave the church that you look back and think… wait wtf were they teaching me as a kid? I left when I was in college (over ten yrs ago) but I still struggle with what I was taught sometimes. I have a lot of family still in the church and I love them and respect them but as a historian I can’t ignore the history and the truth. Thank you for sharing this!
Aah! I was so nervous about doing this . I figured not a lot of practicing Mormons are patreon supporters but still didn't want to disrespect anyones family so I'm happy you enjoyed it
Great episode!!!! I left this church three years ago and it’s crazy how different what the church teaches about Joseph Smith is from the reality of how he was. I was taught by the church that he was a wonderful person…we even did a whole play/musical when I was in high school about how amazing he was. I remember hearing about how Emma Smith left the church and always thought that was weird…now it totally makes sense!

I was so excited when you said you were gonna do a this fucking guy episode on Joseph Smith. He was as much of a con man as Hubbard. You didn’t even get into the practice of posthumously baptizing people. (there’s only so much time) Like Anne Frank!
