Alexander III of Russia was never meant to be tsar and honestly, things probably would have gone a lot better for a lot of people if he hadn't. Come with me down this Russian sized rabbit hole as we learn about this doting husband who sent a shitload of people to labor camps.

Sooooo the train wreck was Sasha’s fault. He was drunk and insisted the train go faster. It’s a train DUI.

The fall of the Romanovs was my field of study, and I admit to having a big ol’ soft spot for Sasha III. He definitely did some terrible shit and fully deserves to be a candidate for TFG, but ultimately he was a product of the turbulent time. After his brother Nixa died he was rushed to the position of heir-they even gave him Nixa’s fiancée as a quick solution for a wife!-but he was never comfortable in the role. Most of his reign was frantically reacting to the unrest following his father’s murder, and trying to shore up the structure because he knew his oldest kid, Nikolai, was going to be a big fat failure of a Tsar. He wasn’t always great guy, but he’s no Ferdinand of Aragon or Thomas Howard. 😝 Can’t wait to hear your take!
Totally agree and I hope my hesitation to go one way or the other too hard on him comes through. Also you're probably gonna know more about this topic than me! So I hope you can still enjoy it even though you're gonna know way more about these folks than I do
