Early Ad Free: Alexandra Feodorovna pt 1 2026
We’re finally revisiting Alexandra Feodorovna — and wow, did we forget how absolutely unwell the vibes were in Imperial Russia.
In part one, we follow little Alix of Hesse from sweet “Sunny” child to deeply anxious future empress after a childhood full of tragedy, religious obsession, and Queen Victoria-level melodrama. Then enters Nicholas Romanov: sensitive, clueless, hopelessly romantic, and immediately down catastrophically bad for this girl.
We also get into:
— the Romanov court and its terrifying levels of wealth
— why Russia absolutely did NOT want a German empress
— Alexandra rejecting Nicholas’s first proposal
— her conversion to Russian Orthodoxy
— the deeply cursed timing of their wedding
— and the horrifying Khodynka Field disaster that immediately branded this couple as bad luck in the eyes of the Russian people
Basically: two beautiful, deeply romantic weirdos fall in love while every possible historical red flag waves aggressively in the background.
And somehow… this is still the happy part.

I started my degree in Russian history because I was a teenager who LOVED the romantic story of Nikolai and Alix. It didn’t take me long to just HATE them both. They just. . . wouldn’t do the shit they needed to do to win over the people. Alix’s RBF wasn’t an act, she really did hate her Romanov family and the Russian people.
as a double gemini (sun and rising), i knew i always liked alix
I'm so excited for a redo of this one!
I literally just finished the original episode haha love it!!
ahh! I love this video format. I am starting to imagine Alix like Moira Rose.
