Certainly not excusing her behavior, but I’ve read some of Dagmar’s correspondence after she fled Russia, and she . . . didn’t seem all there. I honestly think she had a psychotic break after the Revolution and was not living in reality. Still I feel awful for Olga. She was processing her own trauma while dealing with her mother. It must felt like a new beginning of sorts when her mom passed away.
