GCODE 02⏐ PART 02 ⏐ Rhino and Grasshopper
Welcome back to Season 2 of the Growth series! Following up on the L-Systems from our first episode, today we take the step of preparing the algorithm for the physical world.
In this video we take the growth geometry we generated and structure the data specifically for 3D printing. Rather than relying on a standard slicer, we are building the print logic directly inside Grasshopper. In this episode, we cover:
Print Paths: We use data tree manipulation to generate toolpaths for open surfaces, ensuring a continuous, unbroken print path.
Adhesion Layers: To guarantee print stability from the ground up, we build a solid base adhesion layer.
⏭️ What to Expect Next With the lines organized and the toolpaths defined, we are now ready for G-code. I recently ran a poll, and our Patreon Studio members voted heavily in favor of content specifically focused on G-code. Also, I’ve seen that so many of you are highly interested in this step, so I'm making sure the upcoming G-code episodes will be specially thorough!
In the next video, we will cover the Silkworm plugin method (similar to Series 01) alongside a brand-new alternative I am currently testing. This new method is faster and specifically optimized for manipulating heavy patterns and massive datasets.
👇 Files Attached Below! As always, the complete, commented Grasshopper definition for today’s setup is attached below. Also, this file includes python components legacy files that should work on older Rhino versions (al least Rhino 7)
