W.I.P. #3 - Nancy

Hello hello everyone!

A new month has begun and you know what that means: a brand new set is already underway! This time I wanted to challenge myself by bringing a more classic and detailed style into the game. I even created a mood board so you can better visualize the vibe I settled on. It’s inspired by the beautiful Nancy Meyers aesthetic that you’ve probably seen all over your FYP! Think delicate, soft finishes paired with gorgeous brass accents, classical and timeless elements and a subtle touch of coastal charm.

The main challenges I chose for this project are the stairs and lights! I’ve never created these before and they’re known to be a bit more difficult than most other objects, so I’m really excited to dive into them and see how they turn out.

The first item I created is a timeless sideboard that you can use in an entrance or really any room in the house. I intentionally added more classical elements, such as the handles and tassel, while keeping the overall shape clean and simple so it isn’t tied to just one aesthetic. For this item, I also decided to completely rework all of my wood textures. I can now proudly say that I have six beautiful wood swatches that I plan to reuse in most of my future sets to keep a sense of cohesion across my work and style. I’m really proud of how they turned out, and you can catch a little sneak peek of them in the sideboard photos in-game!

Next up, I created a not-so-little pouffe/ottoman. It was originally intended to sit under the sideboard as decoration, just like in the reference picture, but it also looks perfect in a living room in front of a cozy fireplace. To make the most out of this item, I created both a living room chair version and a regular chair version, so you can place it wherever your inspiration leads you, even at a vanity, for example! I also went completely crazy with the swatches for this one… we’re talking over 39 swatches! Think beautiful patterns, mainly stripes and checkers, along with a selection of solid base colors. Which texture do you think is my favorite?

Finally, I decided to tackle one of the “hard” items: a table lamp. I started by creating the model in Blender and got to try vertex painting for the first time! If you’re not familiar with it, it’s basically a grayscale map (from black to white) that tells the game which parts of the object should light up. I added a little picture so you can see how I approached it. I have to say, I’m really impressed with the results and the whole process ended up being much smoother than I expected!

This set won’t be a standalone release, I’m planning to create multiple parts, each focusing on different areas of the house. This first part clearly leans toward the entryway! As for the name, I’m thinking of calling the set “Nancy” since the name perfectly captures the spirit of this aesthetic.

Bonus note: I’m incredibly proud of the textures this time around. I struggled a lot with them in my older sets, so seeing my vision finally come to life exactly the way I imagined is such a rewarding feeling.

Alright, I’ll stop talking now and get back to work!

Until the next one, bye byee! ✨
