Taylor Swift Just Gave Swifties A NEW Mystery to Solve | “Patient Zero” Lyrics - TLOAS: The Encore
PATIENT ZERO HAS ARRIVED. 👀
Taylor Swift dropped four brand-new songs as part of The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore, and we immediately had to press play.
This was NOT part of our Journey to the Eras Tour.
This was a completely unplanned Saturday recording that happened because Taylor released “Patient Zero” on Friday, September 25th and, naturally, we weren't going to wait. 😂
So on Saturday, September 26th, Rick, Robert and Corrina sat down to hear it for the very first time.
And there is one VERY important thing to know before watching:
👉 THIS REACTION WAS RECORDED BEFORE THE MUSIC VIDEO.
We had the lyric video, the lyrics, the song, and a whole lot of Swiftie theories. That's it.
At the beginning, we talk about The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore, why these songs were released, how they fit with the album, the aesthetics, the different vibes, and which songs we thought Rick and Robert might connect with.
Then Rick takes Robert down an entirely separate Swiftie rabbit hole involving Taylor, William Bowery, “the lakes,” and the absolutely unhinged theories that can come from spending too much time online with Swifties. 😂
At 15:25, we finally press play on “Patient Zero.”
We listen through the first two verses and hooks before stopping to unpack our first impressions. The guys immediately hear something different from what they expected, including the feeling that the song almost sounds like an opening statement.
Rick also has some VERY strong feelings about that trumpet. 🎺
From there, we start digging into the story.
What is Taylor actually telling us?
Who is she talking to?
Why does this sound like someone warning another woman about a relationship she already knows too well?
And, of course…
WHO THE HELL IS “PATIENT ZERO”? 👀
At around 22:30, we come back for the bridge and finish the song before getting into our closing thoughts and the theories that were already exploding across Swiftie spaces.
One of the biggest theories at the time connected the song to Taylor's friendship with Sophie Turner and Turner's divorce from Joe Jonas. We talk through that entire connection and why so many Swifties immediately started connecting those dots.
But remember: we recorded this the DAY AFTER THE SONG CAME OUT.
The music video hadn't premiered yet.
We didn't have the additional context that would come later.
We were hearing this song, reading these lyrics, and clowning right alongside everyone else.
And that's what makes this reaction interesting.
This is our FIRST interpretation of “Patient Zero” before we knew the rest of the story.
Corrina also connected with some of the song's themes on a personal level, but because everything was so new, we didn't want to force the conversation into something heavier than the song itself at that moment.
After seeing the music video, that perspective changed.
We WILL be coming back to “Patient Zero” for the music video, and that conversation will go much deeper.
For now…
Welcome to the very beginning of the “Patient Zero” rabbit hole. 🐇🎪
💬 What was YOUR first theory when you heard “Patient Zero”?
Did you immediately think of Sophie and Joe, or did you have a completely different theory?
And now that we know more… has your interpretation changed?

The fact that he allegedly cheated on Taylor and broke up with her, makes me think it’s not about him, because in the song she says she walked away.
Drick and Drobert, if you know you know, will love the video.
Still on work time getting up but in retirement land I dont have to go anywhere. This is a great video hope the the guys enjoy it.
24:10 ... that lyric switch from, "if you're sick of him, I got you, I was patient zero" to "If he's KILLING YOU, I see you I was patient zero" and then you add in the Mini Movie (I refuse to call it a music video) is just diabolical of her! AND, knowing who Dakota's Grandmother is?!?!?!
Taylor Lakes is an phony AI slop account that uses new Swifties for money! It’s all bogus! Taylor would never use such obvious alias or crappy poetry and music!
I do think possible inspired by Sophie, and at the same time, she has been in a rumor to be transitioning into filmmaking which she had made a deal in 2022 with searchlight films to possibly direct her first feature film. After the video when you guys watch it, I’ll add more to it. Some Swifties believe this is a song what was going on behind the scenes of the eras tour which makes sense while she was possibly working on a script for a film. I guess we will have to wait and see.🥰
Also, this is what makes it so fun because we can have so many theories and be so wrong. But when we get it right, it’s so much fun. I invite any Swifty to add to this before they see the video and not give the details away after they watch the video lol😂😂😂
The music video changed this song for me and such an interesting way. I already enjoyed this song, but the video takes it to a whole new level. I love everyone’s theories on it and I’m not gonna talk about it until you all get to break it down. The actual music video.
Damn, not him being all psychic with Dakota Johnson -- 👀
