Taylor Swift Was The Missing Piece! | I Don't Wanna Live Forever - Journey To The Eras Tour PT23

Taylor Swift and Zayn teamed up for “I Don’t Wanna Live Forever” on the Fifty Shades Darker soundtrack, and Rick & Robert are diving into it for the first time! 🎶🔥

This one turns into a surprisingly deep conversation about vocals, production, songwriting, and why this collaboration works so well.

Before we hit play, Corrina gives Robert some context on Fifty Shades Darker, the song’s story, Zayn’s history with One Direction, and how this track came together. Originally developed by Zayn and Jack Antonoff, the song eventually made its way to Taylor Swift, who loved it and agreed to join the track.

Once the music starts, the guys immediately lock in on the production. Zayn’s voice gets plenty of love, but it’s the bassline, hi-hats, snaps, beat drops and Jack Antonoff’s layered production that really grab their attention.

Then Taylor enters.

And the reaction changes FAST. 👀

The guys immediately feel like Taylor brings something the first verse was missing, and we get into the contrast between Zayn’s higher register and Taylor’s controlled vocal build. From her lower opening to that huge note at the end of the bridge, we break down how she uses her range, rhythm and vocal control to tell the story without ever making it feel forced.

We also talk about:

🎤 Zayn’s incredible lower register
🎶 Taylor’s vocal control and range
🔥 That bridge and THAT high note
🥁 Jack Antonoff’s production choices
🎧 Why the bassline and beat drops hit so hard
🥜 Why Taylor and Jack are basically peanut butter and jelly
👀 Why this somehow feels more like a Taylor Swift song than a Zayn song
🌎 Taylor’s ability to move between genres so naturally
📋 And whether “I Don’t Wanna Live Forever” is playlist-worthy

By the end, Rick and Robert are asking a bigger question: how does Taylor manage to step into so many different musical worlds and make them feel completely natural?

So… did Taylor steal the show on this one, or is the Zayn/Taylor combination what makes the song work?

The story I heard behind this song and I don't know for sure of about all of it but the songwriters credits are Taylor, Jack and Sam Dew. The story I heard was Zayn and Jack were given the chance to write a song but it ended up with Taylor, jack and Sam writing another song to use. I can't say I've seen any proof but it is registered as her song and Zayn only has vocal credit on the song. The song was really big on radio when it came out. I think it ended up playing in the credits of the movie but I believe it came out before the movie.

One hundred percent Taylor wrote this in the same time she wrote 'We Found Love'.

Here's Taylor singing it solo. This is one of my favorite performances of hers. Love your reactions! https://youtu.be/p9imp1ItdvY?is=B4j8CAVffeZql_T1
