Rap Fans React To Taylor Swift's Storytelling In "Cardigan" | Folklore First Listen
Today on Hazed Reactions, Corrina introduces Rick and Robert to Taylor Swift’s “Cardigan” music video from the Folklore era — and this one turned into a surprisingly emotional deep dive into storytelling, songwriting, visuals, and even… cardigans themselves.
Before we even start the song, the boys discover that Taylor Swift cardigans are basically Swiftie friendship bracelets in sweater form, which completely changes their understanding of the fandom culture. From there, we dive into the Folklore album, the fictional storytelling concept behind the record, and the famous teenage love triangle between Betty, James, and Augustine that connects “Cardigan,” “August,” and “Betty.”
As we watch the “Cardigan” music video, we talk about Taylor Swift’s ability to write from perspectives outside of herself while still making the emotions feel universal and deeply personal. We also discuss the cinematic visuals, the symbolism throughout the video, and the incredible dedication behind filming scenes like the real water piano sequence.
This episode is another important step in our journey preparing for the Eras Tour and continuing our deep dive into Taylor Swift’s music, storytelling, lyrics, symbolism, and artistry.

Hahah I am cracking up at Robert’s reaction to the Taylor Cardigans 😂😂 Also Rick saying how long were you planning on keeping this from us??
Robert, this son*taylor said is supposed to have been from Betty’s perspective years after the event inn Betty and August. She said in her mind Betty and James always ended up together and that’s when cardigan takes place, years later when he finally is able to reconcile with her. I really hope iKarina you ok ay the rest of the love triangle soon. Feel like the three should have been done in one video or consecutively
Fun fact this song although is part of the teen love triangle is actually about matty Healy. In fact this was the song that confirmed they were dating when Taylor mouthed to the cameras onstage “you know this song is for you, I love you” in response to matty doing this onstage the day before to a song he wrote for her. So this is how we know ,after in ttpd that matty is Peter. He was also seen wearing a Peter Pan pun after ttpd was released for days on his jacket.
Please breakdown the other perspectives. I love this trilogy.
They need to see the Willow music video soon. Even though it's not part of the triangle, the video is like a direct sequel to this one.
Beautiful song and MV which she directed
I don’t ever leave comments, but I just wanted to say cardigan is my favorite TS song. The music video depicts the piano and her music taking her to the best places, but also the worst. And when she’s drowning in the middle of the ocean she clings onto her piano to save her life. The metaphor is just beautiful. Also don’t even get me started on “I knew you leaving like a father, running like water” 😭
Great reaction guys
Y'all are hilarious 😂 🥰 (Bat signal 🫶🏼) 😅
No Nikes lmao but Keds has collabed with Tay back in the day!!!
DePop is an AMAZING app for getting Taylor cardigans and other merch from actual Swifties! There is no Rep or Debut Cardigan yet!
