From Star Trek to The Fly: Why Teleportation is a Nightmare

Think teleportation is just a convenient way to get from the Enterprise to a planet’s surface? Think again. Today on Acceptable Losses, we are peeling back the high-tech veneer of sci-fi’s favorite shortcut to reveal the visceral, molecular nightmares lurking in the buffer. From the very first cautionary tale in 1877 to the absolute trauma of Star Trek’s Tuvix, we’re breaking down the five tiers of teleportation horror. Whether it’s being "telefragged" into a bulkhead, split into your worst primal self, or fused with a housefly, we’re asking the big question: Do you actually survive the trip, or does the machine just build a very convincing replacement?

Doctor Who Acceptable Losses when? I'd accept a Dalek only one if needed.

The idea that teleportation kills you and replaces you with an exact copy was actually my first plunge into existential dread when I was a kid

If you watch From, they have Faraway trees that teleport you. It's not fully revealed how/why it works but someone went through it and ended up in a concrete wall!

Planescape mentioned. Please. There could be a whole video on just the Lady of Pain. Then another on the video game. So much potential content, please.

you *have to* remember reality is discrete, not continous. there's no difference between being dedge and reconstructed somewhere, and going from one planck time to next planck time (assuming perfect fidelity of reconstruction)

My favourite teleportation horror scene is in the novelization of Doom 3. They describe the humans they sent through the teleporter at first would come out screaming, eyes missing, and having having their mouths dug out into "cone shaped" holes.

something before i listen through this, canonically the soul is a thing in star trek, and the soul is transported with the body, so you don't die every time you use a transporter. no guarantee you won't die in a transporter accident tho
