Piloting Cthulhu: Black Marauder & Other Supernatural Horrors of BattleTech
Welcome back to another episode of Acceptable Losses! Today, we are diving into the terrifying, unexplained, and straight-up supernatural side of BattleTech with our host PancreasNoWork to swap some of the most chilling war stories traded in the deep black of space.
In this episode, we cover:
How a religious splinter faction unleashed a bioengineered version of Mad Cow Disease on the planet Necromo, causing all higher brain functions to cease and turning the infected into flesh-craving monsters.
The terrifying reality of Jump Psychosis, misjumps that can suspend a ship in time for over two centuries, and horrific legends of vessels being destroyed in hyperspace by giant void squids.
The legends of "Lucky Number 7," a cursed piece of garbage Charger that violently faceplanted and killed its pilot, a haunted 13th Zeus that seemingly caused its pilot to hold vivid conversations with his dead sister, and Great Gaffa's Ghost—a green Star League Highlander that miraculously appears out of nowhere to save doomed MechWarriors.
And the ultimate cosmic horror of BattleTech, The Dark One, a pristine, jet-black Marauder with no serial number. Is it just a machine piloted by a psychopath, or is it an extradimensional being bleeding into our reality, eating souls and punishing mankind for breaking the rules of physics?

Love seeing the art used by Tex (from the blackpants legion) in his episode being here as well. I can't remember if it was made for the video or not, but yeah, regardless always love seeing it
Eldrich horrors beyond human comprehension, yes please. Also once again triggering memories of Eternal Darkness: Sanities Requiem. “May the rats eat your eyes, I am now lost to your cause!”
I don't appreciate the term 'Zombie'... I find it offensive. I prefer 'mortally challenged'. SMH 😒
Can't wait for them to talk about the horizon zero universe cause man I can't be bothered to play it but the tidbit lore I hear sound real dire
The Black Marauder, best case a star-league stealth mech with a prototype neural interface that drives the pilot mad. Worst case Demon Mech.
Team mate: Kevin… what is that? Kevin: *Has a mangled body and a smoothly.* Uh… a smoothy?
Kevin, what do you have there? A smoothie.
So was his sister a pilot of the mech? Cause I thought that Zeus allowed you to see the ghosts of previous pilots not just anyone
Having a "phantom" personality in a mech sounds like a really high stakes slot machine, you could get a greenhorn, or worse.... you could get a clanner
No podcast makes me go "Fuck yes. " just from reading the episode title more than this one.
Me when my mech is battle
We Mech from battle.
Ah yes the Black Marauder one of my earliest encounters with Battletech. That art work for the Black Marauder forever lives rent free in my head...... SEND HELP!!!!!
