Dev Log #1 - 2/6 LIs Introduction
Hey everyone, and welcome to the very first Dev Log for The Darkness Within!
Today we’re diving straight into the heart of the story by introducing two of the six planned Love Interests (LIs). They're the first characters you'll meet, and their intense backstories, especially their unique connections to the Realm of Darkness, are central to the game.
You'll also find a Quick Story Introduction to ground the plot, and finally, a development update on the progress. Let’s jump in!
Tiffany: The Senior Consultant (First Picture)
The World Owes Her Nothing. She Takes Everything.
Growing up, Tiffany learned quickly that no one was coming to save her, not her family, and certainly not the world. She internalized a harsh truth: "No one can choose the card they were dealt. You either quit, or you gonna play them". But after years of fighting corporate injustice, seeing colleagues earn more and rise faster, her ambition hit a wall of betrayal. Driven to the Academy to find a new path, she found something else entirely. Through a profound emotional connection to a single painting, she discovered that her deep-seated loneliness is the conduit to the Realm of Darkness.
Sasha: The free spirit (Second Picture)
Instinct Over Intellect. Family Over Everything.
An artist, Sasha lives by her instincts. She’s passionate, adventurous, and wears her heart on her sleeve, with a unique sensitivity that lets her feel the world and the people around her on a profoundly deeper level. This strength comes from a place of love, rooted in her fierce, protective devotion to her younger brother, Sebastian, who struggles to find his voice. For Sasha, family is the only true constant, and she will burn the world down to protect her own. That intense empathy is the key to her past... and her unique connection to the Realm of Darkness.
Quick Story Introduction
The Darkness Within takes place in a modern world and centers on an MC haunted by his past, struggling to find meaning. Faced with the desperate decision to finally regain control of his life, he discovers a terrifying truth: he can cross over to the Realm of Darkness, a real, tangible place where the collective subconscious resides. There, fantasy creatures challenge his burgeoning powers. His journey through this dark realm will bring him to people who will either be a turning point for his life... or his ultimate downfall.
Update on Development
At the moment, all dialogues and scene staging are complete for Chapter 1. I am now deep into the technical phase, establishing the Visual Style Development for The Darkness Within. I'm spending time perfecting the dramatic lighting and mood that will define the game's atmosphere, a crucial step to properly represent the intensity of the Realm of Darkness.
Since this project is a passion project and a side hustle, I have limited time. While this work takes focus and may stretch the timeline a bit, I'm pouring my whole heart into this game and can't wait to deliver something truly impactful.
