Meet the Crash Course Geology Experts

For this series we worked with two excellent subject matter experts, one who guided us through the series scoping and scripting phases, and the other who reviewed episode screeners for accuracy and clarity. Their attention to detail and passion for geology helped make this series impactful and memorable.

Maya Wei-Haas, PhD

Maya is an award-winning science writer, exploring the world to bring you the most intriguing stories about the wondrous science that surrounds us. After earning her PhD in Earth Science, she spent nearly three years as a contributing assistant editor at Smithsonian Digital News and then almost five years at National Geographic as a staff writer. She’s scooped up water flowing atop glaciers in Antarctica, stood on the rim of a smoldering volcano in the Canary Islands, and ventured 1,000 feet underground in Mexico's Cheve cave as a travel guide. And she also contributed some of her own photos, research, and rock collection to our series.
