Coming This Spring: Crash Course Geology

The Earth we know now is very different than it was two billion years ago… and yet, to a rock, it’s the same world. That’s the heart of geology: while Earth is ever-changing, geologic rules and processes remain the same. By uncovering these constants, we can reveal our planet’s past, learn how to thrive in the present, and prepare for the future.

Using the basic principles of geology as its guide, this 25-episode series will take viewers on a tour of Earth’s past, present, and future. We’ll also introduce many sub-disciplines of geology, exploring how the field makes modern life possible as we know it.

Geology lets us marvel at how Earth came to be the way it is. But just as much, geology is about the present. It helps us build healthy, prosperous communities today and for the future. It’s about clean groundwater, and earthquake prediction, and healthy soil. It’s about finding minerals for electric cars, and finding rocks to hold excess carbon. Geology is a story that deeply affects us, but ultimately, it’s a story that isn’t about us: It began long before humans, and will end long after we’re gone
