The Set of Native American History
If you’ve been enjoying our new Native American History series, you might have noticed some of the intricate details of our set. When designing the space where Che would teach us about Native history, we wanted to make sure that it reflected each of the major American Indian regions, just like the videos themselves do.
So our production team collaborated with our series advisor—poet, scholar and member of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes, Heather Cahoon—to build an authentic and robust set. Heather graciously loaned us the star quilt and woven baskets, and we filled our bookshelf with titles from her recommended reading list and books referenced in the series. We sourced images that represent significant moments in Native American History, from Navajo code talkers during World War II to a banner hung at the Standing Rock protests against the Dakota Access Pipeline—which Che himself was heavily involved in. And you might catch a glimpse of our “Myth Blaster” bat, which… comes in handy in episode 3.
