Why Crash Course Sex Ed
Sex happens. We’re all living evidence of that. But good sex education isn’t available to everybody.
As of 2022, only twenty-nine U.S. states require some kind of sex ed in schools. Thirteen of those states don’t require the information to be evidence-based or medically accurate.
And a lot of information about sexuality is tangled up in myths and shame. Literally. The medical term “pudendum” – often referring to the vulva – comes from a Latin term meaning “to be ashamed.” (Which has influenced how much we know about the Vagina & Co.) Stigma has also influenced how sex ed programs talk about contraception and LGBTQ+ people — if they talk about them at all.
But we at Crash Course say: let’s talk about it! In partnership with the Kinsey Institute at Indiana University, with sex educator and sexologist Shan Boodram as the host, this series will explore the usual suspects: penises, vulvas, STIs, and pregnancy. But we’ll also talk about orgasms, consent, masturbation, kinks, and how society influences what we do, think, and feel about getting it on.

Love it! SexEd is so important for so many kids to keep them SAFE.
Awesome
This is such a massive emotional and mental pick me up to read. I have sung praises for Crash Course for years and I love how practical and IMMEDIATELY useful this content will be for people. #FreeForEverybodyForever
This is awesome! Thank you! Can’t wait to watch with my teen.
Omgosh, I'm so psyched that this highly necessary and highly neglected topic is going to get the Crash Course treatment. Education without borders is why I became a patron, and I'm proud and honored I get to be a tiny part of empowering people through knowledge, and therefore making the world a better place. Thank you for the work you do.
This is so very much needed, for school children as well as adults. Thank you. 🙏🏽
This is awesome and greatly needed!
I'm looking forward to this. Also, Shan Boodram is a good choice to help out with this. All I can say is as you already know. Be careful, I don't want all of Crash Course to be hurt because they cherry-pick things from this to get it banned in schools.
This is great! I'm so glad to be supporting these efforts!
This is brilliant. I do the best I can, but I get a limited number of students and sometimes it does not fit into the course description.
I could have used this, so so long ago. I and my siblings were homeschooled because Christian schools were too expensive. I learned about "69" when some fellow scout troop members talked about it during a campout, didn't really understand, and they told me that it was what sex is. I felt uncomfortable with the knowledge; I approached my religious-authoritarian emotionally and physically abusive father about it, and he got flustered and ended up brushing it off. I don't recall how old I was, probably 12, possibly 13. I don't recall when I actually learned about sex, but boy how have I had some hang-ups because of my lack of knowledge. I've shifted from being a prude to being sex positive over the last couple of decades, but I think even my prudish self would have said sex-ed is a good thing.
This is great. I’m sure it will help many young people who don’t have anyone they feel comfortable talking about these topics with.
