August 2026 Developer Log
Can't believe it's August already...
Release Schedule
The Caprini Breeding Program, in game format, will be released on August 3rd or 4th.
[EDIT: It'll be August 5th - sorry about that :<]
I'm doing some final animations and programming this weekend.
I ended up choosing this project after cleaning up my sprite work for Last Summer. Spencer has been adapted as the Playable Character for this game, and the first release will have two "scenes" and around 30 or so base animations.
Animation
Speaking of animation, I studied animation like crazy this month. No joke I've been watching animated porn, pants up, taking notes like it's a calculus lecture. I also read most of Richard Williams' 'the Animator's Survival Kit' and learned some useful stuff.
One of the biggest changes to my animation is that I will, for the near future, commit to animating on 3's, or animating at 8fps / 125ms frames.
I think animating on 3's with 180p pixel art looks really nice. Eventually I'd like to animate on 2's (12fps) but that's another story.
My previous strategy was... no strategy at all. In the last CBP comic I animated at 4-5fps (200-250ms frames, which is REALLY clunky) and sometimes 8fps, and sometimes 10fps...
Hope it shows.
Art and Disney
Side ramble: I'll always be sad about the death of Disney 2D animation. I get it, hand drawn animation is hard, but it's sad that we might never see animation at the level of Disney's Golden Era / Renaissance ever again.
It's a shame, because I love Disney's 2D style. I also love the way Disney characters (especially boys) are drawn compared to 'anime' style boys. Especially the nose, eyes, and shape of the cheeks. Might just be me though.
Either way, I'm starting to settle on a pixel art style and it'll be inspired by 2D Disney somewhat.
One of the things Richard Williams ranted about in his book is about how art schools don't even teach proper cartoon drafting anymore in favour of 'modern art'. Guess we'll leave it to internet artists / indie artists to keep the medium alive.
The Format of My Games
I've made some big decisions on the 'style' of game I want to make. In short, it'll be somewhere between interactive fiction (like degrees of lewdity) and a traditional VN (like Camp Buddy).
Solo dev is all about compromises. After finishing the demo of Sixteen Memories, I realized I just don't have the capacity (or patience) to do full-blown background art like a VN, and would rather focus my effort on NSFW animations.
As much as I WOULD like to make backgrounds for everything, it's the least enjoyable (for me) and one of the most time consuming tasks. I just don't think I'll be able to finish a story if I spend too much time of these sorts of things.
Technical Stuff
A few other technical things I've figured out last month:
Synced audio and visual (using HTML canvas - although - sorry I won't be able to have sounds for every animation this time around).
I learned how to edit and customize fonts, and all of their weird little technical quirks. Now I can just use Aseprite > export a sprite as SVG > FontForge > render them as custom glyphs in the PUA (this is sooo nice for my style of game, now I can render 8x8 icons as font glyphs!!! It makes everything look REALLY COHERENT). Bonus you can toggle between the aseprite font / arial without losing the pixel art icons...
Some more modifications to the SugarCube default template - won't get into it too much here.
Next Month / What to Expect
Thanks for supporting me so far :)
Just to set some expectations clear: you can expect development cycles from me to be between 1-2 months between posts, 1.5 months is around the sweet spot (for my attention span too, haha). I will only be making games for the next little while. Now that my resolution, framerate and game engine are "settled", I hope development will go a bit faster.
As for what I'll work on after posting CBP v1? Who knows... wherever my brain takes me...

You are doing amazing, wish I had your study discipline. You are doing breath taking work.
Thanks Juckolo :)
Let's gooo 💚 you're doing super good. Thanks for all the work and soul you're putting into it
thanks Slothy <3
i love seeing logs like this. there's a distinct tone difference between your july log and your august log and it honestly made me smile. back in july, you seemed more transitional and uncertain with stuff and very much had a lot of decisions to make and triggers to pull. this one was just fun to read because i could almost hear the passion and the wheels turning behind the scenes. honestly, that's dope as hell. i also think there's a seriousness to the nsfw genre that a lot of people just ignore and i love the fact that you're taking the "pants up" approach because there really is things to study about the mechanics of things. it's also what made your stuff stand out to me and why i think it will continue to stand out-- and all of that was before the calculus lecture :p go get em, man. keep that fire burning at all costs and make the stuff that's both challenging and brings you joy
haha thanks aaryn and thanks for all the advice :< good NSFW animation can get so weirdly technical :sob:
This all sounds really intriguing and awesome. Can't wait to see the outcome. On a side-note: maybe you could have an art-trade with an artist who is fan of your creations for the backgrounds, if you don't like to do them? If anyone were to offer Pixel-Background art for a cool pixel-animation in your style - I know a lotsa Indie-Artists aren't rich. So, direct art-trade sounds like a reasonable strategy. <3 But not if it's too difficult for you, of course...if you need to focus on your stuff and cannot commit to any later trade, that's understandable, too. I know the benefits and challenges of hyper-focus ^_^ - and interrupting it with something different can be really disturbing for a creative process.
i think that's a good idea :) for this first round, I'm gonna try more text first... I like writing so I don't mind
Absolutely respect for putting so much effort into it. I'm looking forward to what's to come.
thanks nivek :>
I love all of this. It really feels like you're doing your best not just to put out a product, but to create something you can be proud of. I'm so here for it. Can't wait!
thanks tiefling_tears :) I like making NSFW but I always want it to be more than just NSFW :<
Keep up the good work, champ!!
thanks muka ill do my best!
