Simone & Malcolm Collins
In mainstream media coverage of natalism, one specific couple keeps popping up. Their eccentric appearance and apparent ironclad commitment to the principles of tech natalism make them catnip to curious reporters, who have profiled them exhaustively. But who are Simone and Malcolm Collins, and what are they actually trying to sell you? This week, Josh and June do their best to find out.

Y'all reading that email from Simone like the Ratatouille letter meme
all Buddhists are born again if you really think about it
I absolutely remember seeing posts about artcorgi during like.. Steven universe-era tumblr days
"You're gonna get bopped" makes me so queezy. Child abuse made saccharine. Eugh.
Queezy! That’s the word I couldn’t think of when trying to describe my reaction. Pre-verbal trauma is so fucking difficult to treat.
Malcolm sounds like the voice training is working.
Unfortunately trans maxxers are a thing, there's not many of them, but it's a sort of incel subculture. I've talked to a few online and frankly they sound like people who were so deeply in denial about their feelings of gender dysphoria that they used the lense of "female privilege" to justify their desire to transition. Weirdly this reminds me of how a lot of terfs claim that trans men are transitioning to escape womanhood and obtain male privilege :D
That email is so bizarre and I have so many questions lol Mainly...does she actually listen to the podcast? Like the way she's described in the episode I could see her viewing herself as more of a centrist than she actually is, but it's hard to imagine anyone like that engaging seriously with any actual left-wing material (as opposed to, say, your average centrist Dem types) and not quickly nope-ing out. I don't remember if y'all ever say anything particularly mean or divisive about them in past episodes, but I could see them taking offense to the way some of the subjects of past episodes have been discussed so I'm kinda surprised how complementary she sounds in the email (that and how her take on the show seems broadly accurate I guess?). I do remember a while back seeing articles about Microsoft's CEO talking about how he uses AI to "interact" with podcasts by uploading transcripts into a chatbot in order to converse with said chatbot about the podcasts contents. This sounds incredibly stupid and I doubt it works very well if at all, but I could totally see someone using ChatGPT to upload a podcast transcript (which is itself often AI-generated when not provided directly by the podcast in question) and summarize it. I could totally see Collins doing something like that (especially given what else she said in the email re: AI), and I could see such summaries leaving out asides about the couple in other episodes. Obviously AI sucks shit and I can't imagine such summaries being useful to anybody at all, but maybe if you're an apparent dullard like Nadella or...well. I dunno man this shit's surreal even for me to think about. Can't imagine what it was like for y'all to receive these emails from her lmao
Please please please reach out to the great Kate Wagner, who's in Chicago, and comp her a ticket! She's tweeted often about the Century of American Incest, that lines up so well with your coverage of daddy–daughter dances etc.
That email y'all received was so chatGPT it hurts. They did a good job personalizing it but it was slop.
that email. I am terrified. horrified. I am SLAIN. but i am reminded of some things i've heard of rightwing pundits
It’s Boromir
FUCK
I've been waiting for this one
