Post-Launch Recap & What's Next

Hi, whammy here.

It's been 10 days after TCU has launched. What can I say? The reception has been quite overwhelming. We're extremely grateful for all the support we've received, it really means a lot to us. The amount of people who were eagerly awaiting the return of this decade old game really says a lot about how much this game means to people.

To be frank, we have been struggling with paying attention to what's going on outside of the TCU discord, it's just been tech support and bug fixing all the way. We know there have been a multitude of gaming news articles written on TCU and the return of The Crew, and lots of YouTube videos being made. We're glad to see so many people enjoying the game and experimenting with it. Speaking of experiments...

MODDING

The amount of modding that's been going on in the last 10 days alone is quite incredible, and it brings me joy to see. I always said that, the way I see it - modding is the future of this game. Not just because of the potential (which is very very large with The Crew), but also because it has been left in an abysmal state by the last update in 2017 before it was abandoned completely, and currently this is the only version of the game that players can experience.

This is why the TCU Mod is in the works. It's a collection of essential & lore-friendly fixes, improvements and content restorations, done by the community, with the goal of bringing the game back to a level of greatness it once had, while retaining all the new DLC content and features. Those of you who are aware of the "The Crew Wild Run" update and what it did, know just how much the game was broken and destroyed. Now that everyone has access to The Crew once again, we have already joined forces with other community members on making the mod a reality.

A little preview of the mod (yes, this is the latest version of the game):

WHAT'S NEXT FOR THE TCU PROJECT?

We still have some important fixes to roll out for both the launcher and the server, which is what we're currently focusing on. The launcher will also get a GUI rework, as WinForms are just way too outdated. Once that's dealt with, we will start working on TCU Online and TCU Net 2.0. What's TCU Net 2.0? Great question! It will be the future iteration of our current website, but will also be an online system integrated with the TCU Online experience - user profiles, scores, friends, posts, rewards, etc. Don't wanna over-promise too early on, but this is the plan. This requires some hefty server hardware and storage, which is why every financial contribution is greatly appreciated! We will also be actively looking into options for PS4 support, but again, no promises yet. Same goes for the much-needed Pre-WR version support.

THANK YOU

As you can see, we have quite ambitious goals. But with enough time and your support, we believe we can achieve them. We will be posting about all the aforementioned efforts and their progress here. I will also be posting some additional informative/educational posts about the game, how it's designed and maybe even how it works here.

Today, October 16th, they released the offline version for The Crew 2. I'll be honest, get ready to make offline mods for it, similar to those from The Crew 1. Only Ivory Tower can do that. Imagine, they completely cut out the track creation tools for the offline version.

it's so dissapointing that the crew is revived but only for people who had it already, i have it on ps4 (playable on ps5) but it's useless now. even more frustrating is that there is so much news now about the crew coming back and people streaming gameplay in discord but there is no way i can play it as well. shame because it is my fav racing game

I'd like to leave a reminder that, simply *as long as you have The Crew game files on PC (version 1.2.0.0)*, you can run TCU.

Thank you very much for your work, you have done a tremendous job, and I look forward to new updates. My question may be a little silly, but I am interested in the possibility of running the Xbox 360 version of the game offline. Perhaps there is a way to do this. Best regards.

Sadly we have absolutely 0 news or ideas for Xbox 360 at the moment. If there are any, we will make sure to share.

Hello. Will we be able to use pre wild run game files and play the game? Or only this latest modded version will be available? I really want to experience unique game atmosphere before Wild Run change..

T
TCU Project · September 27, 2025

Currently TCU only supports the latest 1.2.0.0 version of the game. Support for older version is in the works.

Good job, I have a question: how do I unlock cars from the season pass? The game is missing 14 cars, including a Ferrari 458, McLaren MP4-12C, Cadillac Escalated, VW Toareg, Spyker C8, Corvette C2 and C3, and others?

T
TCU Project · September 27, 2025

They were never put into any car dealers, but on TCU you can get them from CAU Crates.

i dont know much about this field so forgive my ignorance. Would it be a lot of work to host a local session and enable friends to join it via i.e. some sort of session code? Or even have it publicly accessable? Ofc the experience wont be perfect but makes more sense than having you guys bear the cost of dedicated server HW. Or maybe instead some tool people can use to run their own servers on their own used HW?

T
TCU Project · September 25, 2025

That's a good question, but sadly we can't give a definitive answer on this yet. Most people are used to dedicated servers for simple multiplayer games (ie Minecraft, CounterStrike, other Valve games, etc), but you have to understand that they're very different from an MMO like The Crew. This means the server works differently, is structured differently, stores data differently, etc. There would be lots of preparation and documentation having to be done for everyone that wants to host their own The Crew server, it's no easy task for either party involved. Besides that, multiplayer isn't even fully supported yet, people would run into tons of problems and errors playing together at this stage.

I finally got to go back and beat the Crew because of this mod, thank you. Really looking forward to the future of this project.
