An Open Letter from Super Awesome Baby to Our Community and Supporters
Hello everyone. I’m 荒梦, the leader of Super Awesome Baby.
Today, I would like to formally announce something important to all the players, developers, sponsors, and supporters who have followed and supported our team:
From now on, Epic Fight will no longer serve as the primary dependency/framework for Super Awesome Baby’s mods.
Going forward, we will gradually transition to EntityStudio (ES), developed by Kila.
This includes Nightfall, EFX, DMC, Ares, as well as other projects that we have developed, collaborated on, or are currently working on. These projects will gradually be migrated and adapted.
This is a very important decision for us.
At the same time, several different versions of recent events have been circulating within the community. As the leader of Super Awesome Baby, I believe it is necessary to explain what I personally experienced and what I have learned about the situation.
1. Our Contact with Kila and EntityStudio
Earlier this month, Kila contacted me after being introduced by our team member arcad1a and our collaborator Merlin204.
Kila’s CurseForge profile:
https://www.curseforge.com/members/kilabash/projects
During our conversations, I learned that Kila, the author of Photon 2, was working on a new project.
The project includes a VFX creation environment similar to Unity and attempts to bring many workflows commonly found in traditional game engines into Minecraft mod development.
After looking into the project myself, I came to the following conclusion:
Compared with the current stage of Epic Fight, EntityStudio demonstrates enormous technical potential.
Because of this, Merlin204 and I provided Kila with various models, animations, and other assets to help test its features.
This was simply normal technical cooperation between developers.
Later, Gui (G), a member of the Epic Fight team, saw a video posted by Kila and asked Merlin204 in the developer channel whether there was any collaboration with Kila.
He stated:
“Hey, so recently it has reached me that there's an on-going effort from a separate team, called LowDragMc, known for working on projects such as Photon or Shimmer, to work on a new project that aims to very closely mimic common game development engines such as UE & Unity. They're aiming to bring many of the features we've been working on for months, and from my understanding, all that through the usage of generative AI.”
At the time, I did not comment on this statement.
I believe that competition between developers, similar technical goals, and even disagreements over development philosophies are not inherently unacceptable.
2. The Dispute That Followed
Before migrating my own assets to EntityStudio, arcad1a and I proactively informed people in the developer channel in order to avoid similar misunderstandings.
However, the conversation eventually developed into an argument.
During that argument, Gui made several claims.
I would like to explain what I currently understand about them.
1. Regarding the claim that “Kila had a bad attitude”
After the dispute, I personally reviewed the chat history between Gui and Kila.
Based on the conversations I saw, Kila was consistently enthusiastic and actively introduced Gui to his project, its features, and its development status.
Therefore, based on the chat records I personally reviewed, I do not believe the claim that “Kila had a bad attitude” is accurate.
On the contrary, what I saw was Kila actively explaining his project and attempting to communicate normally with another developer.
For this reason, I cannot agree with describing their interaction simply as Kila having a “bad attitude.”
2. Regarding the development progress of Epic Fight’s new project
During the argument, it was stated that Epic Fight’s new project had already made significant progress.
However, after speaking with Yesman, the main author of Epic Fight, we learned that the vast majority of the new project’s functionality was being developed primarily by Yesman himself.
Yesman also openly acknowledged that the development schedule had been delayed multiple times.
I want to make one thing clear:
I do not believe delays themselves are wrong.
Developing a system of this complexity largely by oneself is extremely difficult, and delays are completely understandable.
However, this did differ from the way the project’s development status had been presented to us during the argument.
3. Regarding claims that “Kila uses AI and stole the project”
During the dispute, claims were also made along the lines of “Kila is an AI-using thief” and that he had “completed the new project in only two weeks.”
I cannot agree with those statements.
First, based on what I know about Kila, I do not believe such descriptions reflect reality.
Second, both EntityStudio and Epic Fight’s new project are attempting to draw inspiration from the workflows and design ideas of modern game engines such as Unreal Engine and Unity.
Under those circumstances, I do not think it is reasonable to conclude that one side “stole” from the other simply because both projects share similar goals.
There was also a clear misunderstanding regarding the claim that the project was completed “in only two weeks.”
What Kila originally meant was:
“The project has made a lot of progress compared with where it was two weeks ago.”
Not:
“The entire project was developed in only two weeks.”
Those two statements have completely different meanings.
4. Regarding the claim that “Chinese developers all have problems with him”
During the argument, there were also statements suggesting that “Chinese developers all have issues with Gui.”
At least as far as Super Awesome Baby is concerned, this is not true.
Neither I nor the members of our team had any particular hostility toward Gui. Before this event, most of us had barely interacted with him at all.
Therefore, I do not know where that conclusion came from.
I also do not want anyone to use phrases such as “the entire Chinese developer community” to represent people who never expressed such opinions.
5. Regarding legal action
During the argument, there were also statements about potentially involving a legal team.
I have to admit that this genuinely shocked me.
Even now, I still do not understand:
What law, agreement, or licensing condition did we supposedly violate?
We simply decided to migrate our own models, animations, and mod assets to another technical framework.
As the creators of those assets, I believe choosing which framework we want to use in the future is entirely normal.
This experience further strengthened my decision to leave the Epic Fight ecosystem and move toward a different technical direction.
3. Some Statements During the Dispute That Disappointed Me
1. Regarding Nightfall not being open source
Some people argued that because Nightfall was not open source, it was “garbage,” “shit,” or somehow violated Yesman’s agreement.
I later asked Yesman directly about this.
Yesman did not require our project to be open source.
Therefore, at least on this point, I do not believe the claim that we violated an agreement is valid.
As a side note, when Nightfall 3 was completed, we actually intended to release all of the source code.
But the team quickly moved on to developing DMC and other projects, and somehow we simply... forgot about it.
Which is admittedly pretty ridiculous. XD
2. Regarding the statement that “small EF mods finally have a chance now that we are leaving”
I found this statement very confusing.
Nightfall is not inherently incompatible with the vast majority of other Epic Fight addons.
Modpack creators can absolutely use Nightfall alongside other addons.
In my view:
A mod should succeed by improving its own quality, not by waiting for another project in the same category to disappear.
When Nightfall 1 was first released, we were also an extremely small project.
At the time, mature projects such as WOM already existed.
We did not question their authors because of that, nor did we believe that “we would only have a chance if they disappeared.”
We simply continued making our own work.
From Nightfall 1 all the way to Nightfall 3.
Eventually, our work itself earned recognition from more and more players.
I still believe that this is the path a mod should take.
3. Regarding the claim that “we make mods for money”
This is the accusation that saddened me the most.
Some people believe that our purpose in making these mods is simply to make money.
If making money were truly my primary goal, I probably would not have chosen to make Minecraft Java Edition mods.
From a purely commercial perspective, I could have chosen other directions that are far easier to monetize as actual products.
From the beginning until now, I have kept my promise:
Every finished mod will be released publicly and for free.
Sponsors mainly receive access to early testing builds that are still under development, while also helping support the continued development of our projects.
I have never denied that Patreon provides us with part of our funding.
In fact, without that support, many of our projects might not have been able to continue.
But that income is nowhere near enough to cover the enormous cost of developing multiple large mods simultaneously.
Models, animations, programming, art assets, servers, software, and many other development expenses all cost real money.
Even now, I personally remain in debt.
So when I see years of our work simply described as “cashing in,” it genuinely hurts.
Behind these projects are enormous amounts of time, effort, and money.
Players may ultimately see only a mod file.
But for a developer, that file may represent months—or even years—of their life.
4. The Future of Super Awesome Baby
1. All projects will gradually migrate to EntityStudio
We will gradually migrate:
Both projects currently in development and projects that have already been completed
into EntityStudio Addons.
This includes Nightfall, EFX, DMC, Ares, as well as other projects we have developed or collaborated on.
This migration will not happen instantly, but it will become our primary development direction going forward.
2. Existing Epic Fight mods will not be removed
We will not actively remove the Epic Fight addons that have already been publicly released.
Players will still be able to download and use them.
However:
Super Awesome Baby will no longer release new Epic Fight Addons.
Future content will primarily be developed around the EntityStudio ecosystem.
3. This migration is not simply driven by personal emotions
Leaving Epic Fight is not solely the result of this dispute.
In fact, we had already begun seriously researching EntityStudio before these disagreements occurred.
Anyone who has genuinely worked with Photon 2 and EntityStudio can probably understand why we became interested in it.
A more modern asset workflow, a stronger VFX system, more intuitive development tools, and a workflow closer to modern game engines all showed us enormous possibilities.
Therefore:
Even without this dispute, we would very likely have gradually migrated in this direction eventually.
Recent events simply made that decision become clear sooner.
4. To all of our sponsors
Thank you very much for your continued support.
If our decision to move away from Epic Fight means that you are no longer interested in our projects, you are completely free to cancel your sponsorship.
We will hold absolutely no resentment toward anyone for doing so.
Whether you continue supporting Super Awesome Baby or not, I sincerely hope that you continue finding more enjoyment in Minecraft, the modding community, and games in general.
Thank you for choosing to support us.
Final Words
Everything happened incredibly quickly.
Even now, there are still many things I need time to think about.
There is no denying the impact Epic Fight has had on us over the years.
We learned a great deal from this ecosystem, and we also met many friends through it.
Nightfall, Ares, DMC, and many of the projects that came afterward are inseparable from this part of our journey.
So even though we have ultimately chosen to leave, I still want to bring this chapter to a close with respect.
In particular, I would like to thank Yesman.
Thank you for the friendly farewell at the end, and for all the help and companionship along the way.
Technical directions change. Projects change. Communities change as well.
But I still sincerely hope that Epic Fight will achieve even greater things in the future.
And Super Awesome Baby will now begin the next part of our own journey.
Thank you to everyone who has accompanied us along the way.
Goodbye, my old friend Yesman.
Hello, EntityStudio.

Super Awesome Baby
未来,我们将逐步转向由 Kila 开发的 EntityStudio(ES)。
https://www.curseforge.com/members/kilabash/projects
“Hey, so recently it has reached me that there's an on-going effort from a separate team, called LowDragMc, known for working on projects such as Photon or Shimmer, to work on a new project that aims to very closely mimic common game development engines such as UE & Unity. They're aiming to bring many of the features we've been working on for months, and from my understanding, all that through the usage of generative AI.”
Yesman
Kila
Yesman
Nightfall、Ares、DMC,

https://www.curseforge.com/members/kilabash/projects
“Hey, so recently it has reached me that there's an on-going effort from a separate team, called LowDragMc, known for working on projects such as Photon or Shimmer, to work on a new project that aims to very closely mimic common game development engines such as UE & Unity. They're aiming to bring many of the features we've been working on for months, and from my understanding, all that through the usage of generative AI.”

https://www.curseforge.com/members/kilabash/projects
“Hey, so recently it has reached me that there's an on-going effort from a separate team, called LowDragMc, known for working on projects such as Photon or Shimmer, to work on a new project that aims to very closely mimic common game development engines such as UE & Unity. They're aiming to bring many of the features we've been working on for months, and from my understanding, all that through the usage of generative AI.”
1. 「Kila
2. Epic Fight
Kila
4. Super Awesome Baby
Epic Fight

Super Awesome Baby
https://www.curseforge.com/members/kilabash/projects
“Hey, so recently it has reached me that there's an on-going effort from a separate team, called LowDragMc, known for working on projects such as Photon or Shimmer, to work on a new project that aims to very closely mimic common game development engines such as UE & Unity. They're aiming to bring many of the features we've been working on for months, and from my understanding, all that through the usage of generative AI.”
2. Epic Fight
Kila
4. Super Awesome Baby
Epic Fight
Yesman.

Super Awesome Baby.
Super Awesome Baby.
Kila.
https://www.curseforge.com/members/kilabash/projects
“Hey, so recently it has reached me that there's an on-going effort from a separate team, called LowDragMc, known for working on projects such as Photon or Shimmer, to work on a new project that aims to very closely mimic common game development engines such as UE & Unity. They're aiming to bring many of the features we've been working on for months, and from my understanding, all that through the usage of generative AI.”
Kila.
Epic Fight
Kila
Gui»
Gui.
Minecraft Java Edition.
Super Awesome Baby
EntityStudio Addon.
Epic Fight Addon.
Yesman.
Yesman.
Здравствуй, EntityStudio.

Do you plan to add the Ender Dragon as a boss in this same style as well? I follow the creator of these humanoid mob models, and I saw that he made an Ender Dragon model; I would really love to see a version of that boss in the future.
I became a supporter in May specifically because of Artorias, which you had been sharing updates about since January. What drew me to the project was Artorias as an Epic Fight boss, and that was the version I chose to support. I understand that the team has reasons for moving to EntityStudio, but could you clarify what will happen to the Epic Fight version of Artorias that is currently available to supporters? Will development and bug fixes continue until it is ready for a full public release, or will that version remain an unfinished development build, with the completed version only being released for EntityStudio? I’m not asking the team to abandon the move to ES. I would just appreciate a clear explanation of what will happen to the EF version that originally led me to become a supporter. Being able to cancel future support doesn’t really address that concern
I will prioritize character transplantation, and after that, I will also transplant bosses from the Ares series. I will not abandon any of our works
Minecraft mods that can be developed almost like Unity?! So something like that is actually taking shape...! I think that's a really great decision. In fact, Epic Fight hasn't really caught on much in the Japanese community... If you're going to keep making incredibly impressive mods like DMC and Ares, I'll follow you wherever you go. If I may ask one question, do you already have a specific Minecraft version in mind as the main target version...?
yes,maybe 1.21.1/26.1/26.2 even 26.3
I am not at all disheartened by your move to a new toolkit. I have always considered you the best team in the EF ecosystem—and I’m sure many others feel the same—as things would simply be far more boring and primitive without you. I will happily continue to follow and sponsor other projects, even those unrelated to EF, simply because I deeply value and find endless fascination in what you create; I dare say you have never once disappointed me—all your work has been fantastic. I am incredibly—no, infinitely—happy to hear that you will keep on creating!
Thank you for your support. In the future, I will share progress more frequently
When I read you were migrating to something made by the creator of photon It kind of reassured me as I used unity in the past and tried photon, I know it's a great tool. I would like a little clarification on something : Since entityStudio is more like a tool, won't migrating to it also give you more freedom on exactly how you'll implement everything ? For instance the skill system. I believe, even If I love it, isn't very user friendly and could have a better skill system, but is also too rigid and that's why, most of the time I can't convince my friends to add it to our modpacks. What could help, to my opinion is a mod that only impact what you made, so your weapons and your bosses, since then, it wouldn't impact players that won't use your weapons. And as a bonus, I think skills could be implemented in a way better manner. I personalty think the 4 best skill system I tried on minecraft are : Iron's spell, solo leveling reawakening, tensura: reincarnated and the rpg series on fabric. But i'm digressing here xD So my point is : I'm not disappointed at all, I'm looking forward to it !
I think thanks to Photon, I can create more skill content and cooler magic? This is worth considering
after reading thru this i hope you get the support you deserve an your work gets more recognition, im sure im not alone in only finding your content thru your patreon from people making clips of it an such so do what you need to support yourself an to make your mods come true. Stay Love & A Super Awesome Baby Cheers!!
Thanks for your support.
