Dynamic Life Datapack V1.5 - Free Version!
Older release - This datapack is free and open to all.
V 1.5 updates: Both the standard and max-speed versions are now unified! Enabling players to set their own update speed trough a simple command! 🥳
Bring your world to life with this immersive datapack! Watch as spruce trees dynamically grow, age, die, and drop pinecones to reproduce, creating an ever-changing forest ecosystem. Enjoy the beautiful interactions between Forest Biomes, Foxes, Grassy Meadows, and vibrant Flower Fields. All seamlessly integrated into your vanilla Minecraft world. Compatible with Minecraft Java Edition versions 1.21.5 up and until 1.21.10.
Simply plant a spruce sapling and drop an amethyst shard on it to bring it to life. Then sit back and watch as nature takes over. (Make sure there are no hungry sheep or cows nearby.🐮)
Installation
Download DynamicLife_FreeRelease.zip. (or the MaxSpeed version)
Drag it into your world’s datapacks folder.
Performance Options
Default Update Speed🌿: Optimized for minimal lag, ideal for most players.
Plants will update every 200 ticks.
Performance friendly.
Plants will update at a more realistic pace.
(Maintains the default tick rate)
Max Update Speed⚡: Plants will update at an extremely fast pace.
Set the update speed to the maximum by executing the "/trigger delay set 1" command.
Fun to watch.
Comes at the cost of high tick usage .
(will probably slow down the default tick rate)
Version 1.5 update notes:
Fixed a bug where the datapack would act as the MaxSpeed version when reloading
You're now able to set your own update speed!
For example "/trigger delay set 200" will have the datapack update once every 200 ticks, this can be set to any positive number
Version 1.4 update notes (since 1.3):
Prettier spruce roots
Increased simulation distance
More fox names (named after paid patrons)
Foxes now actually eat short ferns
Bugfixes
⚠️ Warning: It's recommended to download the unified v1.5 version where you can set your specific update speed. But both v1.4 are still available for the time being.

Hey man, not trying to sound impatient or annoying, just wanting to check up and see how progress has been on the 1.20.1 to 1.21 stuff, and wondering if it has been going better? :) (Also, I completely understand if you're VERY busy I get it.)
Hi, no worries. I've indeed been extremely busy, but I've not forgotten the 1.20.1 version ;) I'm continually working on it, it's much more time consuming than I previously thought to rewrite everything for a more primitive version. Makes me appreciate all the technical changes in the later Minecraft versions more
Could you make compatibility for 1.21 if possible?
I was working on making a 1.20.1 compatible free version (that will also be compatible for 1.21), but to be very honest, progress there is going much more slowly then I anticipated. Someday there will be :)
hey so I'm not good at modding Minecraft itself but every time I put the zip file download in data packs the mod never appears in the game itself am I doing something wrong Can You help me?
and no, it doesn't appear in data pack loader
I really love the idea and I was testing the free 1.5 version, but I ran into two problems: First of all, whenever I'm planting a new spruce tree with the amethyst chard all of the other trees update instantly and behave like the MaxSpeed version, even though the trigger delay is set to the normal 200 ticks. Secondly, it seems like I couldn't plant any more trees when I tried it at some place else, only some ferns spawned, but almost immediately destroyed themselves without any new trees spawning. Moss and grass on the other hand eveloved like it's supposed to. In addition to that I have another question. I could grow a few trees, which evolved into a small forest, but after a while the forest was getting smaller until only a few trees were left. Is it possible that a forest can just disappear? Would also be possible to download your world from the trailer to see it working in a big forest for myself? I tested it btw in a 1.21.5 vanilla world in a plains biome, but I couldn't make it work in a modded fabric world in the newest (1.21.11) version. If you have any questions I'd be happy to answer them and I'd be happy if you could address my issues.
Hi, thanks for trying it out. Your first observation is correct, when you plant a spruce tree a "quickstart" is initiated to show that the datapack is working, however this is a common confusion point and could use more thought on my hand. Do you have suggestions? Perhaps leaving the QuickStart out entirely or only activate it upon the first time. A reason why your spruce forest might have died out is to sheep or cows that are nearby, they clear out large sections of forest. Also, sometimes you could just get unlucky with how trees attempt to reproduce. If there's too much grass to compete with the spruce forests tend to thin out, but once there's a grass infestation or some other disease affecting the grass it should strengthen the tree population again. In the extended version there are also bark beetles that affect the health of the spruce trees but that shouldn't be the case here. Do you know what the problem was when trying to get it to work with your fabric world? To my knowledge it shouldn't be a problem. But you do need to make sure that you have the datapack installed in your worlds datapack folder (not the mod folder), and then you should enable the datapack if it's not yet the case.
Is there any way to stop expanding moss block?
You could try introducing a diseased grass/moss species by bringing dry grass to life, this will rapidly spread among the moss species and temper its population :) This should also happen on its own at some point
The 1.5 free version of the datapack refuses to work for me. When I view the datapack list ingame, it appears grayed out.
Try enabling it with the /enable command. Hope that fixes it :)
Is there any data package that supports version 1.20.1 or later?
I’m afraid not for the time being
my datapack is not working i have tried many ways to fix it
Does the datapack show up when doing “/datapack list”? If so, is it highlighted in green?
Hi, I downloaded this data pack, but my world isn't generating the same way as in your video. What could be the reason for this?
But the commands work
Hey I want to ask if this is usable on modpacks too, I have a combination of a BoP, RU, Tectonic and Geophilic, it makes really nice and cool world and the dynamic ecosystem would give it a really nice touch. So I want to ask if it would be usable with this 4 mods ?
I think it should be fine as long as there are still open places for plants to grow (lots of open grass blocks with enough space for growth)
Hi, is this datapack compatible with terrain generation datapack such as Terralith? I appreciate the response!
Yes! This datapack is special in that it is only effective at runtime, while virtually all other terrain generation mods are only effective at world generation. So they never get in each others way :D Though someone mentioned that plains biomes become more rare with Terralith, and currently birch trees only grow in plains biomes. So that's just something you'd have to keep in mind for now. Though in the future I plan on making it more compatible with certain open Terralith biomes as well.
Hi, it seems like the trees don't want to grow, I did everything, the datapack is enabled and the moss and flowers spread but the tree grows and when it dies there are no more trees growing anymore, there are no animals nearby, any clue what i might overlook? I play on 1.21.10 on Modrinth launcher
To add some more context, i can make more trees by dropping the shards on them but still they only grow and die out, neither delay 1 or 200 dont affect it
Hello, this seems amazing, is it save to install it mid-game? or is it better to start a new world?
Thank you! It's perfectly fine to install it in a pre-generated world :)
This mod was so pretty, I especially like the flowers :) I was just wondering if the newer paid versions would become free later on? or would they remain as paid content? Either way this is amazing!
Thank you! It probably will eventually, but sadly not any time soon, I think it still has lots of development ahead of it.
this is really cool

I tried out this data pack using a 1.21.5 Java world from the Modrinth App and it doesn't seem to be working, am I missing something in order to have it work properly?
It's just a world save you downloaded on Modrinth that originally had nothing to do with this datapack, right?? If it claimed to have this datapack pre installed I'd like to know as I didn't post on modrinth yet. But if it's just a worldsave you should just copy the zipped datapack towards the datapacks folder and sometimes you still need to manually enable it by joining the world and typing "/datapack enable ..."
What resource pack are you using?
*shader
This is beautiful!~ How performance friendly is it? Would you expect this to run well on an optimized paper fork with 500 players? (Shreddedpaper- runs datapacks fine). Do the trees only update if players are near them?
The trees do indeed only update if there are players nearby. Will the players be near each other (meaning that there isn't a huge area that needs to be updated)? I'll pm you so we can talk about more details
Trees need more transition points of limbs falling off, the tree withering and dying away before a new one takes it's place. it feels jagged in the current state.
Is there anyway to have a world type which starts with this enabled throughout the whole world?
Sadly not. Maybe next update I could add a trigger command to have it slowly start throughout the world?
Is there a reason as to why the process is at max speed for a little while when loading into a world? happens every single time, 1.21.9
Oh you might have caught onto a bug! It should be a quick fix. Thanks for letting me know!
Any possibility we could get compatibility for 1.21.4? most 1.21.x mods are on 1.21.4
Maybe, I think it's best if I do a poll soon to see what versions have the highest demand
Hi for some reason i cant get this to run im on 1.21.9
Hi! Could you make sure you copied the zip file of the datapack to the correct "saves/your_world_name/datapacks/" folder? If that's the case you probably need to enable it again with the "/enable " command when you're in your world. Hope that helps!
same as the other comment, 1.20.x would be nice
Any possibility we could get compatibility for 1.20? Most of my favorite mods aren't yet updated to 1.21 yet.
It might be doable for 1.20.2. This datapack heavily relies on the /random command which did not exist before 1.20.2. (There are some pseudorandom alternatives I could use for 1.20.1, although they're not great performance wise) But from my understanding most mods are compatible with 1.20.1 at most? So my question is, do most people with this problem play on 1.20.1 or 1.20.2(+)?
