this makes me want to sled with them to see who gets to the buttom first and the loser gets to pay for hot chocolate at the ski resort but i'd be happy to pay even if i'm the loser or not with a warm meal

I have a feeling that the route they are taking somehow has the most trees, rocks, and other such things in it.

That's because Kat knows they're riding a toboggan. The rope is just there to give riders something to hang onto; you're riding that to wherever it takes you and the only control you have is over when to bail out. Laura bailed at the best time. She's not on the sled!
