I think he knows, and he's scared to act on it. A) Because of the Keidran-human aging difference, but more importantly B) He thinks he'd screw it up, and would not be able to forgive himself if he does.
I know Eric is a controversial character due to his family business but it's hard to deny he does care more than most considering the circumstances he's been dealt. Plus this is just so sweet a moment... It's not often a sketch makes me well up a little, but this one did.
