Idea. Google Spider Season.

I’d imagine with a keidran’s sense of smell that’d be pretty overwhelming. Love how she snaps right out of it afterwards. The new apron is super cute too! Thanks for bringing another stupid prompt to life Tom and thank you to those that voted to see it.

It's not the smell (though I imagine that would be pretty overwhelming, too). When onions are damaged, they produce sulfur compounds that react with the water in your eyes to produce small amounts of sulfuric acid. Even if you can't smell anything, your eyes are going to try to flush that out.

Like nothing happen ^^

I've been a chef for years and found that if you're chewing very minty gum, the fumes won't bother your eyes.

She should have red eyes. OuO

M

Tears beat red eyes EVERY time.

I've heard that most of the crying from onions is caused by dull knives crushing the cells rather than slicing them. Try sharpening your knives! Also chilled onions cut easier. So leave them in the fridge for a bit before cutting? *shrug*

If it's ice water, it would help somewhat. (Though you'd want to dry them off before cutting, so they're not slippery.) It's easier to just chill them in the fridge to slow the production of the sulfur compounds.

You made kat cry, you utter monster.

Darn those onion ninjas.

The way she holds that onion while chopping gives me severe anxiety. That's a "fingers-b-gone" hold. Never use it in real life, folks. I wonder what she's making. :3

Only in an apron ;3

Oh, the pains we take for tasty and nutritious meals. Poor Kat! Oh well, I guess it's all for a good cause. Btw, if Kat had a cooking show, I'd binge the whole thing. Probably have to go back and watch it a second time to actually pay attention to the recipes, though... Awesome work, Tom! Congrats, OtherTom!

Kat: "And that's how you make my famous garlic and onion seafood stew! Excellent for first date dinners. I'd tell you how it goes on follow-up dates... but I... don't seem to get many of... those. Hmm..." Kat: "Anyway! Join me next week when I show you how to make my special five alarm spicy pepper porridge. A nifty little pep-up, especially for the sick and convalescent. Which is why my good friend Zen will be acting as my very special guest and taste tester! Tune in next week to find out what he thinks!"

I wear goggles when cutting onions

M
Markius Fox · April 23, 2021

Don't cut the root. I've done it several times like this and the only tears that come is from the initial cut to halve the onion. The horizontal cuts Gordon makes are optional. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dCGS067s0zo

Well... I'm in tears for the same reason right now... X::: Why didn't I put on my rebreather as I usually do...

This, bizarrely, reminds me of a Hyper Police audio comedy sketch on the second soundtrack album. You know, the really obscure 1997 furry anime series and the soundtracks only released in Japan (or bootleg Taiwanese CDs)? Yeah, deep cut. Anyway, there was a bit about Natsuki (the catgirl) countering the crying from onions by laughing. Good times.

Kat, pls

I love how she instantly changed her expression after cutting the onions.

S
Saberbeam · April 23, 2021

Hehe, the show must go on apparently :D Or maybe she's just that stoked to have survived the onions, I can sympathize.

N
Niskara · April 23, 2021

That's a clever apron. I love it!

Wait a minute. It was you. YOU were cutting onions this whole time!
