You ever notice how sometimes Ms. Rose is sorta... spooky?" Rose: *Appears right behind them.* "...She's also good at hearing." Maddie and Karen: "AH!"

This may well turn out to be canon. He is like a dog that barks at guests, but then happily plays with them.
more like a "perfect" guard dog he will attempt to kill anything that they have previously been told to kill (presumably any intruder previously or maybe just anyone that wasn't trace and rose) and will protect or help anyone that he has been told is a friend
