Maybe Team Rocket thought she was a new squirrel type Pokémon and hit her on the head with a PokéBall, causing amnesia and the next person she met was Nibbly, when Nibs nibbled on her to wake her up.

Enter Ms Maddy, the biggest (not to mention most deadly) squirrel in the forest. Observe as she gracefully… *crashing and breaking branches sounds* crashes? Ok... Observe as she not so gracefully crashes through the forest, seeking to frighten and destroy her prey. It’s a shame really, normally the wild Maddy is quite stealthy.
Maddy may not be use to having a big fluffy tail.
