You are doing this because it is a time honored tradition. You get two or more small characters standing on one another's shoulders. The top person wears a oversized trench coat and a fedora, so the two, three, or however many characters look like one person. The person on the bottom has to walk like they're drunk because of balance issues. Every film from Austin Powers to Space Jam paid tribute to this joke.
