Euchre has his paws in quite a small world. He’s Raine’s dad, he was a father figure to Flora, and he was also Trace’s teacher. Small world.
Can't help thinking it's all part of the chess game I feel Euchre is playing.
I think poor Raine here is going to try steer the subject a little...knowing that Euchre did care about someone and gave them a parental figure, but didn't deign to visit her, or even contact her...it must sting. She can't begrudge Flora, she knows, because...well...Flora didn't know. I wonder how Flora's opinion of Euchre could shift when she learns the rest of the story that Red was giving her... Still. I hope the mood lifts a little. I would like to see Flora and Raine interact a little more, for sure.

See I wanna see more like this in the comic proper. I don't think Flora and Raine have even seen each other and it would be really interesting for the both of them to speak a little about this Father figure (or lack thereof) in their lives.
I don't think Raine could. Not for very long anyway.
I know Flora didn't intend to be at all hurtful, but the pain Raine experiences is far too familiar to me. Having a pointedly "absent" father (especially under circumstances that force your Mom to have far less time for you) is something that can't be realistically described to someone who hasn't experienced it. 'Nuff said.
I'm sorry to hear that you have this burden. I wish I could help ease something like this, and in a perfect world, this would be a non-issue, but the best I can offer is condolences, hollow as they are.

Raine deserved better parents for how kind she is.
It's hard to be upset at Flora here, she's so innocent. Though might be a good moment to put a foot down and tell her how it felt to have never known him, and be open about that wound a bit. Maybe through the conversation it'll be a chance to learn more about him AND get closer to a kind of step-sis.

this is what we in the industry call an "Big Oof" Moment that must Sting for poor Raine...of course knowing her, she wouldn't feel resentful per se hearing that, but still...knowing your father treated a stranger more like family than his own must not feel too great either, even if said relations with flora was simply to protect Flora from the more harsh aspects of slavery with that out of the way, I must say that this turned out really well, the slightly awkward look of Raine's face, the way Raine's clothes and tail (flora's tail as well) interact with the water, the spectacular oufits, and of course water itself were superbly done! great job Tom!
Raines' ears being straight back is a dead giveaway the she's hurt; a weak smile doesn't hide it for canids or felids. I'd wonder if Flora would notice in the next moments after this scene?
