Yes ! Best Bethesda game. ^^. My favorite run was with a full charisma Black Widow. I managed to save Benny to the end, and I believe the game want exactly made for that to happened. XD

There are two real life guns I recall Tom has drawn: an SVT-40 and the infamous Tommy Gun. So, perhaps yes, if you count the Fallout New Vegas 9mm Pistol (Browning Hi-Power) as a modern gun.
I don't remember Benny looking this good in the game. Really digging the upgrade though.
