I may be biased, but I think that may be my new all time favourite sketch of yours! It just oozes with charm and warmth. Delighted to see these two return so many years later, especially with the new kiddo. Didn’t think it would have much luck in the polls so it was a real surprise to see it had made it through. So thank you for those that voted to see it and thank you Tom for drawing such a lovely little scene.
I think I can imagine how it may feel to get continuation of your own little story after many years. I'm happy with you and share your joy. And thank you for suggesting Tom such warm ideas.

The water was calm beneath the boat, the gentle rocking soothing for all of them. Vernet smiled, leaning back as his son put bait on the hook again. It had been far too long since they had done this, but it was understandable. Vernet lived on the west coast of Mekkan, Eriad on the east. "You should visit more often." he said, a hint of sadness in his voice. "I know, but I have a family now. Hira doesn't like it when I'm away for too long." "And she knows that she is more than welcome." Vernet shook his head. "Why you two fell in love I will never understand. A fisherman and a... whatever it is she does now." Eriad chuckled. "She's a treasurer. She keeps tabs on at least a dozen businesses, keeping a list of sales and costs, profit margins and worker wages. I don't like that she's so important to everyone, but I really get it. Remember last year when you met Ptolmek? He's got the best mind in Mekkan when it comes to chemicals and science, but he couldn't keep track of his expenses. Hira lets him keep doing what he's best at, and she handles the rest." "Well, I suppose that's understandable. And I can't complain too much, especially if you bring this little guy with you again next time!" "M a vicious hmntr!" Orlin mumbled through the fish in his teeth, grinning as he tried to pull it apart. "I'm sure you are." Vernet chuckled. With a heavy sigh, they fell to silence, listening to the sounds of the water on the shore, the birds overhead, and the lapping of waves hitting the side of the boat. "I promise I'll come visit sooner. Six years is a long time to be away." Eriad frowned. A hand touched his shoulder, and he turned to see a smile. "You take as long as you want. I'll be here, waiting for you like always. And if I can't wait for you, then expect me to be at your door."
SAD MEMORIES, LACK OF LOVE, CARELESS PARENTS, & THE INABILITY(?) TO CATCH FISH. THESE ARE ME, SO TO THIS DAY I STILL DON'T GET THE MEANING OF THIS. OK LOOK, I DO KNOW IT'S IMPORTANT, BUT I WAS LEFT ALONE & HAD TO LEARN THE HARD WAY. AHH THE OLD DAYS, I DON'T MISS THEM IN THE SLIGHTEST
I can relate. Some say 'better have loved and lost' but in my case, I started out with it. Unfortunately, by the time I really needed it (early teens) it was gone. I had just barely 'learned to fish'. I only know my version, as you know yours. The good news is we can prevent passing it on! My children have known the love that I lost. Build their 'good old days' and give yourself that joy. My life taught me to never give up, never give in! My love and best wishes...
