"Save us, Harry Styles, you're our only hope." Holy shit did Toddstradamus finally nail it?
It's days like this...I'm glad I don't pay attention to the charts.
This is the first time I ever saw the music video and...you're not wrong. Woof.
i've literally never heard this song before now.
God, I'm actually going to have to just listen to this in another tab, this music video is hitting me in all kinds of wrong ways, I feel like I'm gonna throw up.
Todd, I am so sorry to inform you that "THEE" is not pronounced with a long "e." It's just "the." I don't know why.
Good shit as usual
At 0:46, shouldn’t that say “Get Todd to 500k subscribers”?
Todd: “Doja Cat makes songs about kissing” Doja Cat, in that exact same song: “I FEEL LIKE FUCKING SOMETHINGGGG!”
yeah, i thought that song was about eating pussy? i guess it has plausible deniability, esp for the censored radio version.
This Meyers commentary part of this video makes me think Todd would be great if he started reviewing the full work of video directors.
No mention that they lifted the melody from Shawn Mendes’ “Nothing Holding Me Back”?
Personally, I kept hearing 'Movin' Too Fast' by Artful Dodger
There are some horrible images in that video. I was close to only listen to the rest without watching it. That cheek pie and the middle finger out of the eyes. Vomit inducing...
Yeah, I've seen early David Cronenberg films that didn't squick me out as much as that video.
I feel like showing this music video calls for some kind of body horror tag, lol. Not really serious about that, just... yeesh, that face-pie and the eye-hands.
oh yeah no I totally agree. The spider crawling under Dua's face skin? I have no idea why they thought the move here was Sexy Body Horror but it is emphatically not the right decision
Hey y'all, recent patron here, very excited for my first early access. I like to watch Todd's vids on my TV, but does anyone know if there's any way to stream Vimeo from my phone to my screen? I don't see any AirPlay-type options here
Watching an unlisted vimeo video on a TV is a horrible experience. I tried and most of the time I didn't get it to work. Way easier on YouTube.
I was just thinking about this song the other day and came to the conclusion that the reason this song didn’t “work” for me personally was it’s inclusion of dua lipa. She just… seems apathetic musically somehow, and she brought it with her.
TBH I kind of agree, I think her style works well for a LOT of the music she does, but she sticks out here. I also think she just looks ridiculous in the video; she's obviously super hot, but she just looks like she's trying too hard to Be Sexy, and being juxtaposed with Megan Thee Stallion it makes it worse
Extremely minor correction (if you even want to take any action): At the 13:08-13:10 mark, it has a bit of an awkward cut from a shot of you to another shot of you, if that makes sense. At 14:13, similar thing happens too. If this were any other YouTuber, I wouldn’t even have noticed, but your editing is always so tight & good that it stuck out. Great video. Amazing that you were able to have so much commentary on a song that is so aggressively meh / mediocre.
Thanks, this is the kind of stupid error I need you guys's eagle eyes for
For what it's worth, Lion King did produce two pop hits, although they were just the Elton John versions of "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" and "Circle of Life", with no "Hakuna Matada" in sight.
While we're on the subject of Megan Thee Stallion's latest single flopping, she had a song on the most recent Addams Family movie soundtrack. Is the curse about to strike again?
Ever since people started talking about Megan Thee Stallion being so damn great, I felt like I fell into bizarro world. She's a generic rapper with no real personality besides "I like fucking" and most of her biggest hits have no hooks, no melody, no good samples, just bland beats. I'm happy to see that someone else finally dislikes one of her songs as much as I do.
I don't really get it either. I'm not the biggest Cardi fan either but she's clearly better at this whole "strip club rap" thing and has more range.
For some reason the video is only playing in Firefox, not in Chrome. The problem seems to be on Vimeo's side. Strange.
Something about Todd's take here just doesn't translate to me here.... IDK what exactly because I do usually tend to have similar tastes to him in terms of when crass songs are fun and when they are cringe. Maybe I just vibe with Dua Lipa more which makes the difference? IDK I just don't share his sentiments here. To me this is WAP but through Dua's style then Cardi's
"Step on my balls madam" is begging to be adding to an out of context video
fantastic timing, ending this video with "save us harry styles, you're our only hope" and releasing it on the same day harry styles releases his new single 😩
This is only tangentially related, but my theory for why we got that abysmal Bruno mashup at the Oscars is that that was supposed to be the opening number (hence all the academy navel gazing) but it got shoved into the middle when Beyonce signed on. IDK why else disney should get to two songs from Encanto, one of which wasn't even nominated. Interesting take about Megan and Doja. As someone who doesn't listen to top 40 radio and only interacts with pop music through this channel and twitter I never considered Doja a bigger star than Megan but that might just be my bubble.
Disney owns ABC, the network that airs the broadcast, so they have to do something to make up for the fact that non-animated Disney films don't get nominated. (The other thing was producing the most anti-film Oscar broadcast in recent memory. Sheesh.)
I think when you first mentioned the song, it was charting below Something in the Way in Australia. I checked the charts again, and while its doing better than Something in the Way, it has gone down a few places, and is now doing worse than Mr Brightside!
Sweetest Pie is just vagina, so "I'll drive and you just lay back" is pretty simple, right? Like, amazon position or something like with the chick on top. Not sure what is confusing Todd there.
Todd was always very literal and especially dislikes mixed metaphors but I'm fully with you here. Pie as a metaphor for vagina is so obvious now it's just a synonym
There's also the unmentioned problem that this is just exactly Bad Habits again musically. Like, it isn't even subtle - Dua's on the same rhythm to start the hook, it's the exact same key, everything. That said, that video is... jesus christ, how did anything top Numb Little Bug for worst music video of the year thus far
The link worked fine for me! I appreciate you talking about this song since it just seemed so empty to me…and you fully explained why. Also, funny as always. Killing it, Todd.
When you said “Get me to 5K subs” did you mean 500K, because you’re well past 5K?
I don't know why, but the video link still isn't working
I can't get in either.
