πΏ ELF KINGDOM β Thalindra's Storyline Begins | Free Update
πΏ ELF KINGDOM β
Over the last few days I've been focusing almost entirely on Thalindra's storyline, and I wanted to show a little of how things are coming together.
Before anything else, I'd like to mention that both backgrounds shown here are temporary.
I wasn't completely satisfied with them, so they'll most likely be replaced later. Right now they're mainly there to help me build and test the gameplay systems before I move on to the final visual direction.
β Vareth Market
The first image shows Vareth's Market.
As you can probably tell, Vareth is a large port city. Compared to Lysanthor, it's noisier, more chaotic, and survives through trade, mercenaries, and information.
This location isn't just a shop.
Here, Thalindra will be able to:
Buy and sell items.
Upgrade her weapons.
Purchase information from merchants and informants.
Information is becoming one of the most valuable resources in Chapter 2.
Something Thalindra discovers may later influence decisions while playing as Auriane or Morvaine... and the opposite is also true.
The three protagonists are no longer completely isolated from each other.
They're beginning to share the same world.
βοΈ The Mercenary Guild
The second image shows the Mercenary Guild.
This is where players will accept contracts and missions throughout Thalindra's storyline.
At first glance, it might seem like a normal quest hub...
But behind the scenes, there's a much larger system connecting all three protagonists.
Some contracts can directly influence events happening in Auriane's or Morvaine's routes.
Likewise, choices made in their storylines can change what Thalindra encounters later.
This also means that failure now has real consequences.
Ignoring a mission, failing an objective, or making the wrong decision won't simply disappear once the quest ends.
Those consequences may continue affecting the world long after that moment.
π§ Probably the Most Complex System I've Built So Far
To make all of this work, I spent the last two days building the logic that allows the three storylines to communicate with each other.
Without exaggerating, it's probably the most difficult system I've developed for Elf Kingdom so far.
I had to stop programming several times just to study different approaches and figure out how to organize everything without turning the code into a complete mess.
Seeing it finally working has been incredibly satisfying.
There's still a lot to do, but now the foundation is there.
For now, I'll keep testing everything I've already implemented, fixing bugs as I find them, and gradually expanding the content for all three protagonists.
I can't wait to show you more soon.
