One way I view the story is that Sota is on the autism spectrum with his special interest being insects so he goes to them to try and cope with his parent’s separation. Would also make sense as to why he refuses to accept the explanation that his mom actually gives him of her and his dad’s relationship being too complicated, he genuinely cannot comprehend why it can’t be a simple fix. So he goes to the bugs thinking they can fix it just for the spirit possessing them to take advantage. Also gives the story another layer of tragedy where he now he has to live with that guilt and the knowledge that the one thing he understood so well completely derailed his life. Also can’t believe this is gonna be Modine’s future when Hunter is taken over by the roaches.
